You know what? I’ve driven past Villa Lecchi countless times on my way to Colle Val D’Elsa, and I always wondered about that elegant building tucked away in the hills. Well, I finally stayed there last month, and honestly – it’s one of those places that makes you want to keep it secret so it doesn’t get too crowded.

The thing about Villa Lecchi is that it sits in this perfect spot about 10 minutes outside the medieval walls of Colle Val D’Elsa, which means you get all the Tuscan countryside views without the tourist buses rumbling past your window at 7 AM. The approach is through these winding cypress-lined roads that feel properly cinematic, and when you pull up, there’s actually decent parking (trust me, this matters in Tuscany). The building itself has that restored villa feel – not overly polished, but elegant in that understated Italian way where everything just works without trying too hard.

What really got me was the wellness center – and I’m usually skeptical about hotel spas, but this one actually delivers. The thermal pools look out over the Val d’Elsa valley, and there’s something deeply relaxing about soaking in warm water while watching the light change over those rolling hills. The massage therapists know their stuff too, none of that rushed tourist treatment you sometimes get. The rooms are spacious with these gorgeous beamed ceilings, and mine had a view toward San Gimignano’s towers in the distance (you can’t see them clearly, but knowing they’re there somehow makes it more magical). The bed was properly comfortable – firm but not hard – and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually has good pressure.

I mean, it’s not perfect – the WiFi can be spotty in some areas, and if you’re planning to walk into town regularly, you’ll want a car because it’s a bit of a hike. But honestly, that isolation is part of the charm. The restaurant serves solid Tuscan fare, nothing revolutionary but well-executed local dishes with ingredients that taste like they came from the garden behind the kitchen. The staff has that lovely Italian hospitality where they’re genuinely helpful without being hovering – they’ll give you excellent recommendations for wineries in the area (the Vernaccia route is fantastic if you’re into white wines) and somehow remember your name after one conversation. The breakfast spread is generous with local cheeses and perfectly ripe fruit, plus they make a proper cappuccino that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine. With a 9.2 rating, it’s clearly not just me who thinks this place has something special going on – it’s that rare combination of beautiful location, genuine comfort, and service that feels personal rather than scripted.
