Hotel Villa San Lucchese
You know what’s funny about Hotel Villa San Lucchese? I almost drove right past it the first time – it’s tucked away in this little hamlet called San Lucchese, just outside Poggibonsi, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. The moment you pull up that winding driveway (parking’s no problem, by the way), you realize you’ve stumbled onto something that feels more like a friend’s elegant countryside estate than a typical hotel.
The building itself is this gorgeous restored villa that probably dates back centuries – I mean, you’re in Tuscany, so everything here has stories. What struck me immediately was how quiet it gets in the evenings. You’re only about 10 minutes from the center of Poggibonsi, where you can catch trains to Florence or Siena, but once you’re here, it’s just you and the rolling hills. The staff actually knows your name by the second day (not in a creepy way, just genuinely warm), and they’ll tell you about the little osteria down the road that doesn’t show up in guidebooks but serves the best cinghiale ragu you’ll ever taste. The rooms – well, they’ve got that perfect balance of old-world charm and modern comfort. You’ll find original stone walls and beamed ceilings, but the Wi-Fi works perfectly and the shower pressure is fantastic. I stayed in one of the rooms facing the garden, and honestly, waking up to that view of olive groves stretching toward San Gimignano in the distance… it’s the kind of thing that makes you understand why people fall in love with this part of Italy.
Here’s what really sold me though – the little details that show someone actually cares about this place. The breakfast isn’t just some generic continental spread; they source from local farms, and the woman who runs the kitchen will remember that you prefer your coffee extra strong. The pool area is positioned perfectly to catch both morning sun and afternoon shade, and there’s this pergola where you can sit with a glass of wine and watch the sunset paint the hills gold. It gets busy during harvest season in September and October (book ahead if you’re coming then), but even when it’s full, it never feels crowded. The location is actually perfect for day trips – you can be in Siena in 45 minutes, Florence in about an hour, and those postcard-perfect hilltop towns like Monteriggioni and Colle di Val d’Elsa are practically neighbors. But honestly? After a day of sightseeing, coming back to this peaceful little sanctuary feels like the best part of the whole experience. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself extending your stay just because leaving feels too difficult.

We recommend 🤓
Both rooms we stayed at were very spacious and with amazing views of the valley! Rooms are air conditioned with good quality lines and towels.
I cannot complete the review, without mentioning the restaurant. It serves traditional dishes and once again the views from the restaurant’s terrace were amazing! Huge thanks to Gerardo and Tanja for their hospitality.
We’re definitely planning to stay there again on our next trip to Tuscany.
