Agriturismo Casale Dello Sparviero
Castellina in Chianti, ItalyYou know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Agriturismo Casale Dello Sparviero – honestly, the GPS led me down this winding road through actual working vineyards, and I started wondering if I’d made a mistake. But then you see this beautifully restored stone farmhouse sitting on a hill, and it just clicks. This is exactly what people picture when they dream about staying in Tuscany.
The whole place feels like someone’s incredibly stylish Italian relatives decided to open their family home to guests. I mean, we’re talking about a real agriturismo here – not some chain hotel pretending to be rustic. The Casale family has been working this land for generations, and you can tell they actually care about the wine they’re making (the 2019 Chianti Classico they poured at check-in was honestly better than stuff I’ve paid twice as much for in restaurants). The rooms are in these converted farm buildings, and while they’ve got all the modern stuff you need – decent wifi, proper bathrooms, air conditioning that actually works – they’ve kept all the character intact. Stone walls, wooden beams, views that make you want to just sit on your little terrace with a glass of wine instead of driving to another hill town.
What really sets this place apart is the location, though. Castellina in Chianti is perfectly positioned – you’re literally surrounded by some of the best wineries in the region, but you’re also just a twenty-minute drive from those picture-perfect medieval towns everyone wants to see. The staff (I think most of them are actually family members) know exactly which cellars are worth visiting and which ones are just tourist traps. They’ll also tell you that the best time to walk around Castellina’s old walls is right before sunset, when the tour buses have cleared out and you can actually hear the church bells echoing across the valley. Parking is never an issue here – there’s plenty of space, which is honestly a relief after dealing with the chaos in Florence or Siena. The only thing I’d mention is that you definitely need a car to stay here; it’s not like you can walk to restaurants or shops. But that’s kind of the point, isn’t it? You’re here to slow down, drink good wine, and remember why you fell in love with this part of Italy in the first place.

Guest Reviews
From cypress trees at the entrance to the interior facilities where we were able to see and experience the real farmhouse houses, it was very good.
Breakfast was also nice.
What could be improved: Considering the very hot weather in Tuscany, even if it's hard to install an air conditioner, I hope there are standing electric fans which can be used in the living room and kitchen.
It was hard to overcome the hot weather of Tuscany with only ceiling fans in the bedrooms. It was hard to sit at the table in the evening and talk to each other, and even woke up frequently during sleeping.
Absolutely loved our time here!
What could be improved: WiFi is a little week
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Tiny shower, uncomfortable mattress, no washing machine as listed on booking.com details
What could be improved: none
What could be improved: Only the weak/unstable wifi, which only one person in our group really needed to complete some work.
This is really a hidden gem. An hour drive from Florence, we will definitely stay here again one day.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: the apartment could be better equipt
What could be improved: Small inconvenience, but there were no small or medium size sharp knives, only very large ones.
