Tuscany Living – Terra Antica
Montepulciano, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Terra Antica? It’s not actually in Montepulciano proper – it’s perched about 10 minutes outside town on the SS326, which honestly turned out to be perfect. I mean, you get all those stunning Tuscan views everyone talks about, but without the crowds stumbling past your window at midnight after wine tastings. The drive up is pretty spectacular too, winding through vineyards and olive groves that look exactly like those calendars your aunt probably has hanging in her kitchen.
The place itself has this authentic farmhouse vibe that doesn’t feel forced – you can tell it’s been here forever and they just… enhanced it, rather than trying to Disney-fy the whole thing. My room had these thick stone walls that kept everything beautifully cool even in July, and the wooden beams overhead had that weathered look you can’t fake. Actually, the whole property feels like someone’s particularly stylish Italian relatives decided to open their family compound to guests. The breakfast spread was incredible – proper local cheeses, fresh bread that was still warm, and this apricot jam that I’m pretty sure came from trees on the property. They set it up on this terrace overlooking the Val d’Orcia, and I found myself lingering way longer than planned just watching the morning light move across the hills.
What really sold me though was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about the area – not just the hotel. When I mentioned wanting to avoid the tourist trap restaurants in town, the woman at reception drew me a little map to this family-run osteria about 15 minutes away where locals actually eat. And parking? No stress at all, unlike in the historic center where you’re circling forever looking for a spot. The location means you can easily explore Pienza, Montalcino, and the other hill towns without fighting traffic every morning. Sure, you’ll need a car (walking to town isn’t really an option), but if you’re doing Tuscany right, you’ve got wheels anyway. The 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s that sweet spot where everything just works without feeling overly polished or precious about it.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Difficult to find, with a concealed entrance
What could be improved: Nothing, all was great!
What could be improved: The clicker for the gate was the only thing ha! Took a while to open the gates.
What could be improved: Two small matters:
1. There are two properties under Terra Antica - this one and another. We were sent directions by the hosts to the wrong property - and ended up driving round the area at 2200 pm with a baby after a tiring flight... I would recommend anyone staying here making sure in advance with the hosts.
2. The plumbing system is rather noisy for those who are light sleepers... We weren't really bothered by this.
What could be improved: None at all.
Excellent property in Tuscany, most beautiful views extremely clean and best farm to table breakfast we ever had. Wine was delicious.
Highly recommended. Wish we stayed longer.
What could be improved: There was nothing I disliked.
What could be improved: It was a perfect stay
