Relais Villa Grazianella | UNA Esperienze
Montepulciano, ItalyYou know what hit me first about Villa Grazianella? The silence. I mean, you’re technically still in Tuscany with all the usual tourist chaos, but somehow this place feels like it exists in its own little bubble. It’s tucked away on Via Grazianella – honestly, I drove past it twice because the entrance is so understated – and once you’re inside those gates, the world just… quiets down.
The building itself is this gorgeous old villa that’s been converted without losing any of its character. I’m talking original stone walls, actual frescoes in some of the rooms (not prints, the real deal), and these massive wooden beams that probably predate most countries. The UNA Esperienze group clearly knows what they’re doing here – they’ve managed to add modern touches without making it feel like a corporate hotel. The bathrooms are sleek and actually have decent water pressure, which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in these historic properties. My room had this incredible view over the Tuscan hills, and I spent way too much time just sitting on the little balcony with morning coffee watching the mist roll through the cypress trees.
What really makes this place special though is the location – Acquaviva isn’t on most people’s radar, which is exactly why it works. You’re about twenty minutes from Montepulciano if you want the full wine tour experience, but without the crowds stumbling around at 10 AM. The staff actually knows the area too, not just the standard tourist spots. They sent me to this tiny enoteca down the hill where the owner’s family has been making wine for generations – the kind of place you’d never find on your own. Parking’s easy (miracle in Italy), and the breakfast… well, they do this thing with local pecorino and honey that I’m still thinking about months later. The only minor complaint I’d have is that the WiFi gets a bit spotty in some of the rooms, but honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise. There’s something about this place that makes you want to disconnect anyway. The pool area is perfect for that – not huge, but positioned so you get these incredible sunset views. I ended up spending most evenings there with a glass of Vino Nobile, watching the light change over the valley. If you’re looking for a base to explore the area without dealing with tour buses and selfie sticks, this is it.

What could be improved: This hotel has a lot of potential to be even better. Some of the misses at this place - was that I had requested for some activities to be planned ahead for my husband’s birthday which they agreed but only to find out that they couldn’t fulfill them when we were onsite. They also recommended us to go to a thermal spa one of the days which was closed when we arrive - it was a wasted trip made.
What could be improved: Carpets at the room needs maintenance, the air conditioner was kind of old and not enough for the hot weather during summer.
Also, the staff were super friendly and helpful and the food was outstanding.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Needs more variety for breakfast & better internet
