Stella d’Italia
Florence, ItalyYou know what caught me off guard about Stella d’Italia? I was expecting another typical Florence hotel trying too hard to be boutique, but this place actually gets it right. The moment you walk through the doors on Via dè Tornabuoni – and I mean literally on one of the most famous shopping streets in Italy – you realize someone put real thought into this renovation. The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance that feels more like a stylish friend’s apartment than a hotel trying to impress tourists.
The location is honestly ridiculous in the best way possible. You’re a three-minute walk from the Duomo, but more importantly for anyone who’s spent time in Florence, you’re right in the heart of the pedestrian zone where locals actually hang out. I watched the morning ritual from my window – shopkeepers opening their shutters, the coffee bar across the street filling up with regulars, that whole authentic Italian street life you hope to stumble into. The rooms themselves surprised me too; they managed to squeeze in modern amenities (the shower pressure is actually decent, which anyone who’s traveled in Italy knows is a minor miracle) without losing that Florentine character. The air conditioning works properly – crucial if you’re visiting in summer when those stone streets turn into ovens.
What really sold me on this place was the staff’s approach to recommendations. Instead of handing me a generic tourist map, the concierge told me about the wine bar tucked behind Palazzo Strozzi and mentioned that the Oltrarno neighborhood is best explored after 4 PM when the artisan workshops reopen. These are the kinds of details that make the difference between feeling like a tourist and actually experiencing the city. The breakfast spread is solid without being overwhelming, and they serve it until 10:30 AM – honestly refreshing when you’re dealing with jet lag. The only minor complaint I’d have is that rooms facing the street can get a bit noisy during the evening passeggiata, but that’s Florence for you. Plus, there’s something charming about falling asleep to the sound of people enjoying themselves in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. With a 9.6 rating, this place has clearly figured out how to balance authentic local character with the comfort level travelers actually want.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: There isn’t one thing to dislike! It’s beyond belief!
What could be improved: Basically nothing! Slight sewer smell (historic building) upon entering hotel but not in rooms
What could be improved: It is a little difficult to find it as it has no an exclusive entrance from the street.
Variety in the breakfast could be improved.
My room was spacious, beautifully furnished with antiques, and full of character. High ceilings, classic décor, and windows that opened onto the street gave me the choice of listening to opera and classical music from nearby street performers — or simply closing the double-glazed windows for quiet. The large bathroom was spotless and stocked with high-quality bath products.
Breakfast was a daily delight, served either in a stunning room with ceiling frescoes or outside in a peaceful, sunlit courtyard. There’s also a lovely bar and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views — ideal for an evening drink. Even the hallways are a pleasure to walk through, adorned with vintage magazines and artwork, each detail placed with an eye for style and atmosphere. It truly feels like stepping into a film set.
But what made the experience exceptional was the wonderful staff. Warm, welcoming, and instinctively helpful, they anticipated my needs with grace — from arranging restaurant reservations to making it easy for me to extend my stay. Their kindness and professionalism elevated the whole experience.
This hotel is a rare find — elegant, intimate, and full of soul. I cannot recommend Stella d’Italia highly enough. It’s one of the finest places I’ve ever stayed, not just in Florence, but anywhere.
What could be improved: That I couldn’t stay longer due to their availability because they’re so awesome and popular
What could be improved: Can’t fault it - had an excellent experience.
What could be improved: Nothing, everything was great.
What could be improved: Nothing negative to say
