IL Tornabuoni The Unbound Collection by Hyatt
Florence, ItalyYou know what honestly surprised me about IL Tornabuoni? I mean, sure, it’s right there on Florence’s most famous shopping street – literally three steps from Via de’ Tornabuoni where all the Gucci and Prada flagship stores are – but somehow the hotel feels completely removed from all that chaos. I walked past those street-level windows probably five times before I even noticed the entrance, which is actually perfect because you get this sense of discovery when you finally step inside. The lobby hits you with this warm, honeyed light that feels more like walking into someone’s incredibly well-appointed Florentine palazzo than a typical five-star hotel. There’s marble everywhere, but it’s not cold – more like it’s been warmed by centuries of Tuscan sun streaming through those tall windows.
The location thing is actually wild when you think about it. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio (I timed it), maybe five minutes to the Duomo if you take the scenic route through the side streets, and the Uffizi is so close you could probably hit it with a well-thrown gelato cone. But here’s what the travel guides don’t tell you – Via de’ Tornabuoni can get absolutely insane during peak season, especially around aperitivo time when everyone’s doing their evening passeggiata. The hotel’s soundproofing is remarkable though; I had a room facing the street and barely heard the buzz unless I opened the windows. Speaking of rooms, mine had this incredible view of the Arno – you could see people crossing the bridge and the hills beyond, which honestly made me feel like I was living in a Renaissance painting for a few days.
What really gets me is how the staff just… knows things. Not in that overly formal concierge way, but like they’re actual Florentines who happen to work at a hotel. The woman at the front desk steered me toward this tiny osteria on Via del Sole that I never would have found otherwise, and when I mentioned I was interested in Renaissance art beyond the obvious spots, she gave me directions to the Brancacci Chapel – which, let’s be honest, most tourists completely miss. The breakfast situation is solid too (though honestly, who needs hotel breakfast when you can grab a cornetto and cappuccino at any bar for three euros?). I did appreciate that they had actually good coffee, not that weird international hotel coffee that tastes like it came from a packet. The whole experience felt less like staying at a hotel and more like having a very stylish friend who happens to own a palazzo in the heart of Florence. At that 9.3 rating, you’re paying for the location and the experience, but if you’re going to splurge anywhere in Italy, this is probably the place to do it.

Guest Reviews
- excellent location, walking distance to main sites
- very clean room
What could be improved: - overpriced for the level of service and quality
- tiny bathroom (barely fits one), and no pressure shower
- we never saw any staff other than the doormen (who do a very good job) and the concierge (located on the 4th floor, very mediocre service, didn’t have pull to get us any reservations at key places).
- no hospitality / human experience, it could very much be an airbnb.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: The bathroom was awkward with the a single sink located in the sleeping area and not in the bathroom with the toilet and shower. The shower was on the small size.
The breakfast options were either a limited continental or a limited buffet.I must say however the staff went out of their way to accommodate us.
Musicians performing on the square could be annoying at times given they played until approximately 10:30 at night.
Overall it’s a very nice hotel.
What could be improved: Nothing!
What could be improved: some mosquitos
What could be improved: Gym hours are so inconvenient
What could be improved: Room a little bit small
