Hotel Milu Florence
Florence, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed in a lot of Florence hotels, and Hotel Milu honestly surprised me – in the best way possible. First off, you’re right on Via Tornabuoni, which means you’re basically in the heart of everything that matters. I mean, you walk out the door and you’re surrounded by those gorgeous Renaissance palazzos, plus all the high-end shopping if that’s your thing. But here’s what I actually loved about the location: it’s close enough to the Duomo that you can easily walk there (maybe 8 minutes through those narrow medieval streets), but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can actually breathe. The Santa Maria Novella train station is literally around the corner, which saved me so much hassle with luggage.
The hotel itself feels like someone took a historic Florentine building and updated it without losing its soul – you know what I mean? The rooms have this perfect balance of old-world charm and modern comfort. My room had these beautiful high ceilings with original frescoes (well, I think they were original), and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious for Europe. Actually, the whole place feels more intimate than your typical 4-star – maybe 40 rooms total? The staff genuinely seemed to remember guests’ names, which doesn’t happen often these days. One thing I really appreciated was how quiet it was at night, despite being on such a central street. The windows must be really well-insulated because I barely heard any traffic. Oh, and the breakfast situation was solid – nothing fancy, but good coffee (this is Italy, after all) and fresh pastries from a local bakery.
What really sealed the deal for me was the little touches that showed someone actually cares about this place. The concierge – I think his name was Marco – gave me the best restaurant recommendations, including this tiny trattoria near Santo Spirito that I never would have found on my own. The lobby has these comfortable chairs where you can actually sit and plan your day without feeling like you’re in the way. And honestly, with a 9.4 rating, I was expecting maybe some pretentious boutique hotel vibe, but it’s just… nice. Comfortable. The kind of place where you don’t spend your whole vacation dealing with hotel drama. If you’re planning to visit Florence and want to stay somewhere that feels authentically Florentine without breaking the bank or sacrificing comfort, this is it. Just book early – I get the feeling word is getting out about this place.
