Il Poggiolo ai Casini
Rufina, ItalyYou know, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Il Poggiolo ai Casini – honestly, the name threw me off a bit, and finding Località Casini took some doing even with GPS. But once you wind through those cypress-lined roads outside Scopeti, it all makes sense. This isn’t one of those cookie-cutter hotels you stumble across in city centers; it’s tucked into the Tuscan countryside in a way that feels almost accidental, like someone just decided to convert their family’s old villa and somehow nailed it.
The thing that struck me immediately was how quiet it gets here, especially in the evenings. I mean, you’re maybe fifteen minutes from the main drag, but it feels like you’re in another world entirely. The rooms – well, they’ve got that authentic Italian charm without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum. Stone walls, wooden beams, the kind of windows that actually open (remember those?) and let in the sound of… nothing, really. Just countryside. The Wi-Fi works fine, which honestly surprised me given how remote it feels, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a freight train, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed in Italy. What really got me was the breakfast setup – they do this thing where everything’s local, and I mean actually local, not just “locally sourced” marketing speak. The woman who runs the place (I think she’s the owner’s daughter?) knows exactly which farm the eggs come from and will tell you about it whether you ask or not, in that endearing Italian way.
The whole operation feels family-run in the best possible sense. Check-in was refreshingly low-key – no marble lobbies or formal procedures, just genuine hospitality from people who clearly care about the place. Sure, if you need a concierge or room service at 2 AM, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to actually decompress and maybe remember why you travel in the first place, it’s pretty perfect. The 8.9 rating makes complete sense to me – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but what it does, it does really well. I’d definitely go back, probably in late spring when the gardens are going crazy and before the summer crowds descend on Tuscany. Just remember to grab some cash before you head out there – the nearest ATM is back toward the main road, and you’ll want euros for those little roadside fruit stands you’ll inevitably stop at on the way.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Just a minor improvement suggestion:
A bath mat on the floor in the bathroom would be useful.
Away from tourist crowds, and lovely to see the untouched beauty of Tuscany.
What could be improved: The weather was quite hot and the fans were helpful but not strong enough to really cool.
What could be improved: No remarks
The place exceeds expectations, it is complex of few houses with separate house with sauna close to outdoor pool with marvelous view on valley.
We were super lucky to be alone in this perfect place.
Our house has 2 levels, with dining room and living room plus WC at first and 2 bedrooms plus WC and laundry room at second level. Kitchen is equipped with everything you need.
There is outdoor equipment as table, chairs and a bench, as well as sunbeds. It was cool to eat outside under trees surrounded by roses and enjoy beautiful scenery.
The beds are super comfortable, WiFi is super fast. There is washing machine and also clothes dryer - very convenient.
You need a car to move around, but Florence is reachable also via public transportation (train), the 2 stations are several minutes away by car.
We felt like we were guests at our relatives.
If it would be possible, I would rate this property as 20 instead of 10.
ttention to detail. Very comfortable, we felt right at home.
What could be improved: We stayed at the property for 4 nights (4 people!!!) and next day we ran out of toilet paper. I messaged the owner and the response was that they can’t give more toilet paper as they provide only the basics… the toilet paper we had in the bathroom wasn’t even a new roll. if you plan on visiting consider having the basics such a toilet paper, sugar (we also ran out 2nd day), coffee…
Also, it would have been nice to meet the owners. We travelled all around Italy this summer and all owners welcomed us to their properties.
What could be improved: nothing
What could be improved: nothing.
What could be improved: One minor remark - In the kitchen and in one of the bedrooms there were many small ants. Probably the owners could improve the situaiton a little bit in this direction.
