The Florence Hills Resort & Wellness
Diacceto, ItalyYou know what? The Florence Hills Resort & Wellness is one of those places that actually lives up to its name – it really does feel like you’re nestled in the Tuscan hills, even though you’re just a 30-minute drive from Florence. I’ll be honest, when I first pulled up to Via il Bagno in Pelago, I thought I might have taken a wrong turn somewhere. The road winds through these gorgeous olive groves and you start wondering if your GPS is playing tricks on you, but then suddenly there it is – this elegant stone building that looks like it’s been part of the landscape forever.
The thing that struck me most was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between upscale and approachable. The lobby has this wonderful smell of lavender and something else I couldn’t quite place (maybe rosemary from their gardens?), and the staff actually seemed genuinely happy to see guests arrive. Check-in was smooth – no weird upselling or pushy spa pitches, just helpful suggestions about local hiking trails and restaurant recommendations. My room overlooked the valley, and honestly, I spent way too much time just standing on the balcony watching the light change on the hills. The wellness center is where this place really shines though. The spa treatments use local ingredients – I had this incredible olive oil massage that left my skin feeling amazing for days – and the indoor pool area has these huge windows that make you feel like you’re swimming in the middle of nature.
What I really appreciated was how they’ve thought about the practical stuff too. Parking is easy and free (which, let’s face it, is not always a given in Italy), and the restaurant serves breakfast until 10:30 AM – none of that brutal 9 AM cutoff that ruins your vacation mornings. The dinner menu focuses on regional specialties, and their wine list includes some fantastic local bottles you won’t find everywhere. The only minor thing is that the WiFi can be a bit spotty in some rooms, but honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise. The location is perfect if you want to explore the Chianti region without dealing with Florence crowds – you can hit the city for a day trip, then come back to this peaceful bubble where the loudest sound is probably church bells from the village below. I’d definitely stay here again, especially in shoulder season when the rates are more reasonable and you have the hiking trails mostly to yourself.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: We had some ants in the kitchen
What could be improved: Nothing major, but the kitchen could have had a few extra bits such as dish soap and sponge etc., but we didn't end up cooking anyway.
What could be improved: Nothing except the transportation strike lol
What could be improved: It may have been a little too simple.
What could be improved: Definitely need a car to stay here. Resort restaurant, spa and pool closed was disappointing.
What could be improved: Nothing. Everything was great!
What could be improved: Breakfast choices were limited. I expected more from a hotel that has “Resort” in its name. Also, not sure if it’s a booking.com issue or a hotel miscommunication but you don’t find out there isn’t a spa unless you read through the Q and A.
