Strozzi Luxury Apartment
Florence, ItalyYou know what caught me off guard about the Strozzi Luxury Apartment? I actually walked past it twice before realizing this was my hotel. It’s tucked right into the Palazzo Strozzi building – yeah, that massive Renaissance palace that dominates the piazza – and from the outside, you’d never guess there’s this gorgeous apartment hotel hiding inside those ancient stone walls. The entrance is sort of understated, which I honestly loved because it feels like you’re discovering some local secret rather than checking into another touristy spot.
Once you’re inside though, damn. The contrast between those thick medieval walls and the sleek, modern interiors is pretty stunning. My room had these impossibly high ceilings with original frescoes peeking through, but everything else was beautifully contemporary – marble bathrooms, a kitchen that actually works (rare in Italian hotels, trust me), and windows that open right onto the piazza below. Speaking of which, you’ll hear some street noise during the day since Piazza Strozzi is always buzzing with people heading to Via de’ Tornabuoni for shopping or cutting through to the Duomo, but it dies down by evening. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Florence here – a five-minute walk gets you to the Ponte Vecchio, and Santa Maria Novella train station is right there if you need to hop over to Rome or wherever.
What really won me over was how the staff seemed to actually know Florence, not just the tourist highlights. When I mentioned wanting good cacio e pepe, the concierge didn’t send me to some overpriced place near the Uffizi – he pointed me toward this tiny trattoria on Via del Moro that locals frequent. The apartment itself feels more like staying in someone’s incredibly well-appointed home than a hotel room. There’s real attention to detail here: proper coffee setup (not those terrible pod machines), fluffy bathrobes that you actually want to wear, and little touches like local soaps and a wine opener that doesn’t suck. Honestly, after three days, I was already planning my next Florence trip around staying here again. The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s not quite perfect (the WiFi can be spotty, and good luck getting a taxi to pick you up right at the entrance), but for experiencing Florence like you actually live there rather than just passing through? It’s pretty hard to beat.

What could be improved: Nothing it was perfect for our needs
What could be improved: Nothing, it was great.
What could be improved: An outlet in bathroom didn’t work. The kitchen sink appeared to have some back up. Neither were issues for us during our stay. The place is beautiful!
What could be improved: The noise all night from the bar on the street! Bring earplugs!
What could be improved: The washing machine. It did not wash clothes properly and it would be great to have a more modern washing machine in the apartment which is otherwise so beautifully appointed.
What could be improved: The noise from the street in the principal bedroom
