Villa Rossini
Capannori, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at a lot of places around Tuscany, but Villa Rossini actually surprised me – and honestly, that doesn’t happen often anymore. It’s tucked away on Via San Quirico, which is this quiet residential street about ten minutes from Lucca’s old city walls. You know what I mean when I say it feels authentically Italian? Like, the kind of place where the owner’s grandmother probably lived upstairs and they converted it into a hotel that still feels like… well, like a home someone actually cares about.
The building itself is this gorgeous 19th-century villa with those classic pale yellow walls and green shutters that look perfect in photos but somehow even better in person. When you pull up (and yes, there’s actually decent parking – a miracle in this part of Italy), you’re greeted by this incredible garden that honestly smells like jasmine and rosemary. The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully restored” – they’ve kept all the original details like the high ceilings and terracotta floors, but added modern touches that actually work. My bathroom had heated floors, which… I mean, you don’t expect that in a place that feels this traditional, but there you go.
What really got me was how the staff seemed to know exactly what you needed before you asked. The woman at reception – I think her name was Giulia – gave me this hand-drawn map showing the best gelato place (it’s called Grom, tiny spot near Piazza dell’Anfiteatro) and told me which nights the local osteria down the street gets too crowded with tourists. She was right on both counts. The hotel serves breakfast in this sun-drenched conservatory overlooking the garden, and honestly, it’s the kind of spread that makes you want to wake up early – fresh pastries from the bakery in town, local honey that tastes like wildflowers, and coffee that’s strong enough to wake the dead. You can rent bikes right from the hotel, which is perfect because Lucca is absolutely made for cycling – those Renaissance walls have been turned into this elevated bike path that circles the entire old town. Villa Rossini sits in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk into the historic center when you want the action, but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night without hearing drunk tourists stumbling over cobblestones. The 8.8 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top fancy, it’s just really, really good at being what it is.

What could be improved: Nothing!
What could be improved: It was exceptional
There is a lovely walking trail nearby under an ancient aqueduct, and local shops are conveniently located. Make sure to spend a day in nearby Lucca.
The hosts gifted us an amazing homemade apple cake upon arrival, such a nice treat!
We were so happy with our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again
I recently stayed at this Villa Rossini and had the best time! Everything was perfect from start to finish. The kitchen was fully equipped and made it so easy to prepare meals—definitely a huge plus for anyone who loves to cook! The villa itself was comfortable, spotless, and had a welcoming vibe that made us feel right at home. Getting to the villa was incredibly simple and hassle-free, which was a relief after a long journey.
The host was super sweet and informative, always ready to offer helpful tips and make sure we had everything we needed. It made the stay feel even more personal and enjoyable. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience, and I can't recommend this place enough!
What could be improved: Kitchen working space a bit limited but not a big issue.
What could be improved: There was nothing we didn’t like but struggled some days with the location without a car. That said the owners helped with taxi’s etc.
