Tangohotel
Lucca, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Tuscany, but Tangohotel caught me completely off guard β and honestly, it’s not even in the touristy part of Lucca where you’d expect to find something this polished. Via Della Formica is actually in a quieter residential area, maybe a 15-minute walk from the city walls, which turned out to be perfect because you get that authentic neighborhood feel without the crowds stumbling back from dinner at midnight.
The place has this modern, almost minimalist vibe that somehow works really well against Lucca’s medieval backdrop. I mean, you know how some boutique hotels try too hard to be trendy? This isn’t that. The rooms are clean-lined and comfortable β really comfortable beds, actually β with these floor-to-ceiling windows that let in amazing light. What struck me most was how quiet it was, even though you’re still close enough to bike into the centro storico in about ten minutes (they have bikes, by the way, which is clutch because Lucca is absolutely made for cycling). The staff genuinely seemed to know the area well β not just the obvious restaurant recommendations, but like, where to get the best farro soup and which gelato place the locals actually go to.
Here’s the thing about this location that took me a while to appreciate: you’re positioned perfectly for exploring beyond just Lucca itself. The Garfagnana region is right there if you want to do some hiking, and honestly, having a peaceful place to come back to after a day in the hills was exactly what I needed. The breakfast was solid β proper coffee, local pastries, nothing fancy but done right. Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven in Italian city centers will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you stay there β it’s not flashy or over-the-top, just really well-executed hospitality in a spot that lets you experience Lucca like you’re living there temporarily rather than just passing through. If you’re the type who wants to be in the thick of things every second, maybe stay closer to Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, but if you want to actually relax and still have easy access to everything, this is your place.

Guest Reviews
Room was well appointed with en suite and close to both the train station and the centre of town.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Nothing
Miriam was simply wonderful, so helpful in every way
nothing was too much trouble.
the room was just delightful, had been prepared and restored in a beautiful way to reflect the history of the building
had all of the necessary features to make the stay more enjoyable
I'm a long time vistor to Lucca.. on all previous visits staying elsewhere
having now found the Tango Hotel this year, I will certainly be returning and based on my experience would recommend anyone coming to Lucca to do the same.
What could be improved: not so much of a what didn't you like..that's probably the wrong description for the question
just a bit of a pity there was no breakfast offering at the hotel, although Coffee was available upstairs
the local cafe along the street prepared a great croissant and other breakfast stuffs
perhaps something to consider... a croissant and a coffee.
Now that would be perfect π

What could be improved: The road outside is quite busy and did disturb us a little during the night but there are free earplugs to use. There is no sign on the building, so we missed it the first time but luckily the owners spotted us!
What could be improved: Nothing to dislike at all. We loved our stay.
