ai Santinelli
Capannori, ItalyFirst Impressions
Tucked away on a quiet street in Capannori, ai Santinelli feels more like discovering a well-kept secret than checking into a typical hotel. The moment you pull up to Via della Boccaccia, you realize this isn’t your standard accommodation — it’s something more intimate and personal. The building has that authentic Tuscan charm that you can’t fake, and honestly, the peaceful setting immediately tells you why couples rate this place so highly. There’s just something about the way it sits in the landscape that makes you want to slow down and actually relax.
Location & Surroundings
What really struck me about ai Santinelli is how perfectly positioned it is for exploring this part of Tuscany. You’re close enough to Lucca to easily pop into the city — I mean, it’s right there when you want those medieval walls and bustling piazzas — but far enough out to feel like you’ve escaped the tourist crowds. Capannori itself is one of those places locals actually live and work, which gives you a much more authentic slice of Italian life. The recent guests aren’t wrong when they rave about the location; it’s that sweet spot where you get the best of both worlds without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
The Property Experience
Walking around ai Santinelli, you get the sense that someone really cares about this place. It’s not trying to be flashy or impress you with unnecessary extras — instead, it focuses on getting the fundamentals absolutely right. The attention to detail shows in small ways that actually matter when you’re staying somewhere. You know what I appreciated most? The genuine quiet you get here, especially in the evenings when you can just sit outside and listen to the countryside settling in for the night.
Perfect for Couples
I can absolutely see why couples gravitate toward ai Santinelli and end up rating their stays so highly. There’s an intimacy to the whole experience that larger hotels just can’t replicate — you’re not fighting for space or dealing with crowds of other guests. The setting naturally lends itself to those long, lazy mornings and evening walks that make a romantic getaway actually feel romantic. Plus, being based here gives you easy access to some incredible day trips (the Tuscan countryside is literally at your doorstep), but you always have this peaceful retreat to come back to.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.2 rating honestly makes perfect sense once you’ve spent time at ai Santinelli. It’s the kind of place that delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense or overselling. You’re getting genuine Tuscan hospitality in a setting that feels both authentic and comfortable — not an easy balance to strike, but they’ve managed it. For travelers who want to experience this part of Italy at a more relaxed pace, especially couples looking for something special, this place hits all the right notes without trying too hard.

Super friendly hosts
Fabulous breakfast
Every morning, we were spoiled with the best breakfast. It was truly beyond belief! Our biggest regret is that we had many day excursions taking us away from the solace of this place. I also wish we had taken advantage of their offer to make us meals other than breakfast. Of all the places we visited in Italy, this is the place our entire family agrees we’d love to visit again. Service was impeccable. Luca was an amazing host.
What could be improved: Having to leave.
The shower was great, bed was very comfortable and the tall ceiling made the room (purple room) we stayed in feel very spacious.
There was a regular bus just outside the premises that goes into Lucca. A couple of nice restaurants nearby, walkable distance.
I would seriously consider staying again for a family trip.
What could be improved: I would recommend renting a car/vespa. Taxis are very expensive in this area. €30+ one way into Lucca which is ten minutes drive. €100+ to Pisa airport. The regular bus E18 helped during the day but dont run past 7/8 to come back. The bus takes card fyi.
The bikes were not available but to be honest in mid June, probably too hot anyway.
What could be improved: Nothing, it was great
What could be improved: Breakfast time starts at 8:30am, which can be late if you travel with small kids. I think an 8:00am start would be great.
What could be improved: NA
What could be improved: Small issue....water pressure wasn't great...especially if other bathroom was in use.
What could be improved: I do not recommend walking anywhere from the property. VERY narrow margins along roads with stone walls and many blind spots. A local man actually tried to give us a ride since he said we were not safe. So many restaurants with a short drive. Lucca is only 10 minutes away so just drive and save your walk for the famous walls!
What could be improved: Nothing!
