Villa Rigacci
Reggello, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Villa Rigacci? It’s not trying to be something it’s not. This place sits in the Tuscan countryside about 30 minutes southeast of Florence, and honestly, it feels like you’re staying at someone’s beautifully restored family estate rather than a typical hotel. The building itself is this gorgeous 15th-century villa that’s been thoughtfully converted – I mean, you can still see original frescoes in some of the common areas, which is pretty incredible when you think about it. The location in Reggello is perfect if you want that authentic Tuscan experience without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. You’re actually close enough to pop into Florence for the day, but far enough out that you’ll hear roosters in the morning instead of traffic.
What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that you only notice after you’ve been there a while. The rooms have this lived-in elegance – antique furniture that’s actually comfortable, not just for show. The restaurant uses ingredients from their own garden (and I’m not talking about a few sad herbs here, they’ve got a proper vegetable garden), and the chef actually knows how to cook. I had this ribollita soup that was better than what I got at some fancy places in Florence, honestly. The pool area is where you’ll want to spend your afternoons – it’s got these panoramic views over the Arno Valley that are absolutely stunning, especially around sunset. Pro tip: grab a drink from the bar and find a spot on the terrace around 7 PM.
The staff here feels more like local friends than hotel employees, which makes sense because most of them are from the area and genuinely care about the place. They’ll give you directions to the best hiking trails in the Vallombrosa forest (about 20 minutes away) or tell you which day the market in Reggello is worth visiting. Parking is easy – there’s plenty of space, which isn’t always a given in Italy. The Wi-Fi actually works well throughout the property, though honestly, you might find yourself wanting to disconnect anyway. Fair warning: this isn’t a party hotel, and it’s not really set up for families with small kids. It’s more for couples or travelers who want to slow down and actually experience the Tuscan countryside rather than just Instagram it. The fact that it has a 9.1 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there – it’s the kind of place that does everything well without making a big fuss about it.

Guest Reviews
We were pleasantly surprised to see donkeys and horses playing in the field when we were having dinner.
What could be improved: Was disappointed by our dinner in the restaurant at the Villa. We ordered Bruschetta and it was not very appealing and the prosciutto & Melon could have been cut off the rind. The melon however was deliciously sweet.
The outside view is breathtaking, immersed in nature with beautiful horses, donkeys, dogs and the background of the chirping of swallows.
Abundant breakfast, excellent food and wine.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: It's more a suggestion that slippers within the room would definitely help.
- The staff was polite and friendly
- The facilities was in good condition and brings you back to the history
- The restaurant provides a typical Italian cuisines & wine
- The swimming pool was just in front of the restaurant, wide open and clean
- The surroundings of the property, well, this is a rural part of the region, surrounded with many small villages.
What could be improved: As and the other part of Italy, there are speaking perfect Italian with no exceptions :), could not say the same for the English language :) ... so be patiently prepared with your google translator :)
