Villa Neroli – Place of Charme
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Villa Neroli? It’s tucked away on Via Gabriele D’Annunzio in Campo Di Marte, which honestly feels like stumbling onto Florence’s best-kept secret. Most tourists never venture this far east from the centro storico, but that’s exactly why this place works so well. The villa itself is this gorgeous 19th-century building with that warm Tuscan stone that practically glows at sunset – I mean, the name “Villa Neroli” makes perfect sense when you’re sitting in their garden with a glass of wine and catching hints of citrus blossom in the evening air.
The Campo Di Marte neighborhood has this authentic residential vibe that you just can’t find near the Duomo. There’s a proper Italian bar around the corner where locals grab their morning espresso (none of that tourist-trap nonsense), and the Mercato delle Pulci flea market is literally a five-minute walk if you’re into hunting for vintage treasures on weekends. What really impressed me was how the owners – they’re this lovely Florentine family who clearly know hospitality – have managed to keep the villa’s original character while making everything feel fresh and comfortable. The rooms have these beautiful high ceilings and original terrazzo floors, but the beds are properly modern and comfortable, and the bathrooms are updated without feeling sterile.
Actually, the whole experience feels more like staying at a sophisticated friend’s family villa than a hotel. The breakfast room overlooks their private garden, and they serve this incredible spread with local pastries from a bakery in Santo Spirito (the owner mentioned they drive across the city every morning just to get them). The staff remembers your name after the first day, and they’ll actually give you real recommendations – not just the obvious tourist spots. When I mentioned I was interested in Renaissance art beyond the Uffizi, they pointed me toward the Bardini Museum, which was completely empty and absolutely stunning. The tram stop is right there if you want to zip into the center, but honestly, I found myself loving the quieter rhythm of this part of Florence. Sure, it’s not within stumbling distance of the Ponte Vecchio, but that 9.2 rating makes sense when you realize you’re getting genuine Florentine hospitality in a neighborhood where you can actually hear birds chirping instead of tour groups. Plus, parking is actually manageable here – something you’ll appreciate if you’re driving in Tuscany.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Breakfast felt very generic and was ok. There was a good variety but the food itself was just ok. Some fruit wasn’t properly ripe, eggs were a bit soggy etc.
Equally the food at the restaurant was ok. Not as good as I’d hoped for a hotel in Tuscany!
