Villa Borri
Casciana Terme, ItalyYou know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Tuscany, but Villa Borri genuinely surprised me. It’s tucked away on Via Della Sorgente – and I mean properly tucked away, not like those hotels that claim to be “hidden gems” but are right on the main drag. This is actually in Casciana Terme, which honestly, most people drive right through without stopping. Big mistake, because this little thermal town has this old-world charm that the more famous spots have sort of lost to tour buses and Instagram crowds. The villa itself sits in what feels like someone’s private neighborhood, all quiet streets and that particular Italian morning smell of fresh bread and espresso drifting from somewhere you can’t quite pinpoint.
The building has that authentic Tuscan thing going on – not the Disney version, but the real deal with weathered stone and shutters that look like they’ve been painted and repainted by generations of careful hands. I mean, it’s a 4-star place so everything works properly (the wifi is actually decent, parking is straightforward), but they’ve kept all the character intact. The rooms have these thick walls that keep things blissfully quiet, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to sleep off a long day of wandering around Pisa or Volterra. Speaking of which – and this is something I wish I’d known before – you’re perfectly positioned here for day trips without dealing with city hotel prices or crowds. Pisa’s about 45 minutes away, but honestly, I found myself just wanting to stay put and explore the thermal baths right in town.
What really got me was the attention to detail that you only notice when you’ve been traveling for a while. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, the breakfast changes slightly each morning (not dramatically, but enough to keep it interesting), and they’ve got this way of being helpful without hovering. The whole place has this lived-in elegance – you know, where the furniture is genuinely nice but you don’t feel like you’re going to break something precious if you actually relax. The thermal springs are literally a five-minute walk away, and after a day of that mineral-rich water, coming back to a comfortable room with proper linens and a view of the surrounding hills… well, it’s pretty much exactly what you hope for when you picture a Tuscan getaway. The 8.4 rating makes complete sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the world, but it absolutely nails being the kind of spot where you sleep well, eat well, and wake up actually refreshed instead of needing a vacation from your vacation.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Staff were not on the desk some of the time
What could be improved: nothing
What could be improved: We were fairly disappointed about the theme. It was reason we booked in the area. The indoor pool was more of a rehabilitation center or old folk facility. No spa facilities were open. I did call ahead to check but wasn’t mentioned.
What could be improved: the internet didn't work, the oven didn't work either
What could be improved: The air conditioning didn’t work well and the unit was too hot to sleep … only there for 1 night so made due but if was planning a longer stay needed working aircon
Location is top if you want to go to the thermal pool.
You can just go on your slippers.
The flat was very large and keeping the baby was easier than in a hotel room.
What could be improved: We were at the top floor without lift and we have a 10 months old baby.
The air conditioning in the living room was repaired recently but still not functioning. It wasn’t a big problem since the temperatures outside were still acceptable for a Southern guy like me.
What could be improved: furniture in room a bit curious
What could be improved: when staff are unable to talk English whatsoever
What could be improved: Rather sparsely equipped apartment - including kitchenette. No washing facilities on site.
