Agriturismo Le Querciole
Casciana Terme, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Agriturismo Le Querciole? The drive up – and I mean this in the best way possible – you’ll think you’ve taken a wrong turn somewhere on the winding road through Casciana Terme’s countryside. The place sits tucked away in what locals call the Fichino area, and honestly, my GPS got a bit confused around Campagna Capoluogo Fichino (it’s one of those Italian addresses that sounds more complicated than it actually is). But once you spot the hand-painted sign and pull into their gravel parking area, you immediately get why this agriturismo has that 9.3 rating.
The owners – I think they’re third generation running the place – have this way of making you feel like you’re visiting distant relatives rather than checking into a hotel. The main building has that authentic Tuscan farmhouse vibe without trying too hard, you know? Thick stone walls that actually keep things cool during those brutal July afternoons, and rooms that smell faintly of lavender and old wood in the most comforting way. I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms facing the olive groves, and the morning light streaming through those wooden shutters was honestly better than any alarm clock. The beds are proper firm (none of that squishy resort nonsense), and the bathrooms have been updated without losing that rustic charm – though fair warning, the shower pressure varies depending on time of day.
What really makes this place special is how it sits in the landscape. Casciana Terme isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot, which is precisely the point. You’re about a twenty-minute drive from the thermal baths that give the town its name, and the surrounding hills are dotted with working farms and vineyards that haven’t changed much in decades. The family serves dinner a few nights a week using vegetables from their own garden – and I mean literally steps from the kitchen – plus olive oil they press themselves. The wine list features bottles from neighboring properties, including this incredible Chianti from a vineyard you can actually see from the terrace. Breakfast happens at communal tables on the covered patio, where you’ll find yourself chatting with Italian families from Florence and maybe a couple from Germany who’ve been coming back for fifteen years.
The whole experience feels refreshingly unhurried. There’s no lobby bustling with tour groups, no pool crowded with kids (though there is a small one if you need to cool off), and definitely no evening entertainment program. Instead, you get long conversations over wine, the sound of crickets at night, and mornings where the biggest decision is whether to explore the medieval villages scattered through these hills or just read under the pergola. The four-star rating reflects the genuine comfort and attention to detail rather than fancy amenities – think quality linens, thoughtful touches like local honey at breakfast, and hosts who remember your name and how you like your coffee by day two.

What could be improved: -
What could be improved: The only thing we’ve missed in the appartment were knives to cook with. However, minor detail.
+ amazing location
+ clean place
+ fully equipped for long term stay
+ swimming pool
+ possible to get to the place on public transport
What could be improved: - hot water is not enough for 3+ people
- bad wi-fi connection
What could be improved: /
The accommodation was comfortable, the bed warm for the cool nights (I stayed in mid-March).
What could be improved: The lighting in the living area could be brighter.
It might also help international travellers if basic items such as dishwashing liquid, sugar, salt, pepper and extra toilet rolls were provided.
