Tornabuoni La Petite Suite
You know what struck me first about Tornabuoni La Petite Suite? The location is absolutely perfect, but not in that generic “convenient location” way everyone talks about. I mean, you’re literally on Via dei Rondinelli, which is this narrow street that connects directly to Via de’ Tornabuoni – Florence’s main luxury shopping strip. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: being just off the main drag instead of directly on it means you get all the benefits without the tourist chaos and street noise that comes with it. I could walk to the Ponte Vecchio in maybe eight minutes, hit the Duomo in five, but when I came back to the hotel in the evening, it felt like stepping into this quiet pocket of the city.
The suites themselves – well, they’re called “petite” for a reason, but honestly, it works. These aren’t sprawling American-style hotel rooms, but they’re thoughtfully designed in that Italian way where every inch counts. The 4-star rating feels about right; it’s polished and comfortable without being flashy. What I really appreciated was how they managed to blend modern amenities with that historic Florentine character you’re hoping for. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious (always a win in Italian hotels), and the beds are actually comfortable – something you can’t always count on in boutique places like this. The air conditioning worked perfectly too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re visiting in summer and spending your days wandering around hot stone streets.
Actually, let me tell you what sets this place apart from the dozens of other small hotels in Florence – it’s the staff’s knowledge of the neighborhood. The guy at reception (I think his name was Marco?) gave me directions to this little enoteca around the corner that I never would have found otherwise, and when I mentioned I was looking for good leather goods, he steered me toward a workshop on Via del Sole instead of the touristy shops everyone goes to. That kind of insider knowledge is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to experience Florence like a local rather than just checking off the major sights. The 8.5 rating makes sense when you factor in these personal touches – it’s not just about thread count and marble bathrooms, though those are nice too. Fair warning though: if you’re someone who needs a big hotel gym or pool, you won’t find that here. But honestly, when you’re staying in the heart of Florence with everything walkable, who needs a treadmill?

The host Julia was outstanding with communication and tips on things to do, from restaurants to interactive museums our son would enjoy, all her tips were a hit.
Of note - at night if your back by 8pm or so, you get to enjoy live performances at a nearby attraction from the comfort of your room. It was a magical memory hearing live opera as we looked down on the stunning architecture from our room w gorgeous painted ceilings.
