Appartamento Nonno Trulli

You know what’s funny about finding great places in Tuscany? Sometimes the best ones are hiding in spots you’d never think to look. I stumbled across Appartamento Nonno Trulli in Stabbia completely by accident – well, actually I was trying to find somewhere between Florence and the coast that wasn’t crawling with tour buses, and honestly, this little corner of the world delivers exactly that.

The address says Via della Buca, which sounds way fancier than it is – it’s basically this quiet residential street where you can actually hear birds instead of Vespas buzzing around constantly. The apartment itself has that lived-in Italian charm that you can’t fake, you know? Like someone’s actual nonno (grandfather) really did live here and his family decided to share it with travelers instead of letting it sit empty. The floors have that slightly uneven quality of old Italian homes, and there’s this particular way the afternoon light hits the kitchen that makes you want to attempt making pasta from scratch (I tried – it was… okay). What really got me was the morning routine here. You wake up, make coffee in their perfectly broken-in moka pot, and step outside to grab cornetti from the bakery down the street – the one that’s been there since probably the 1960s and where the woman behind the counter will definitely judge your Italian but smile while doing it.

The thing about staying in Stabbia is that you’re actually living in Tuscany, not just visiting it. I mean, you’re close enough to hit the major spots (Florence is maybe 45 minutes if you time it right), but you’re also in this bubble where dinner happens at 8 PM and the most exciting thing might be the weekly market or watching the local soccer team play. The apartment’s got everything you need without trying too hard – good shower pressure, a kitchen that actually works, and Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes. There’s parking right outside, which honestly saved my sanity because navigating rental cars through medieval streets is not my strong suit. The whole setup just makes sense, you know? Like someone thought about how real people actually travel and set things up accordingly. Plus, that 9.4 rating isn’t just politeness – it’s because places like this remind you why you wanted to visit Italy in the first place, before you got overwhelmed by crowds and restaurant menus in seventeen languages.

It is a wonderful place where to stay. Next to the apartment is a restaurant with tasty pizzas. On the same street is a Church and the sounds of the bells gives a special atmosphere. A grocery store is in a walking distance, in a short driving distance is a historic village with a great views.
The interior is tastefully decorated with beautiful details. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. A nice terrace where to have a morning cafe. A big bonus are two bathrooms.
The host is such a smiley and gorgeous person. Definitely a place where to go again.

Beautiful apartment, clean, light and spacious. Lovely furniture and some nice touches around the home such as coffee, little bottle of water on arrival etc. The apartment has mosquito nets at all the windows, shared garden space and is good condition throughout.

We loved the tasteful decoration, the absolute cleanliness, the well-equipped kitchen, the sympathy of Benedetta and her staff, and the incredible smell everywhere in the apartment! The backyard was beautifully set up, with some cosy lights and lovely flowers, and a space to have a barbecue outside. The location was also great, with a nice restaurant just in front of the house and less than half an hour away from some very picturesque towns (Lucca and Pistoia). Would definitely recommend this place for a wonderful time in Tuscany!

The property was beautifully furnished, comfortable beds, very well kept and spotless. It’s situated amongst a few residential properties and not far from a supermarket although you would do better to have a car to get there especially if it’s hot. The host was very helpful and always on hand to answer questions and also helped by getting us a few items from the shops as we had a late arrival time.
