Agriturismo Spazzavento
First Impressions
When I first pulled up the winding road to Agriturismo Spazzavento, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — the GPS had me questioning whether I was even going the right way. But then you round that final curve and suddenly there it is, this beautiful four-star farmhouse perched in the Tuscan hills like it’s been waiting there forever. The name literally means “wind sweeper,” and you know what, it makes perfect sense once you’re standing there feeling that gentle breeze roll across the countryside. There’s free parking right on site, which might sound like a small thing, but trust me, after navigating those narrow Italian roads, you’ll appreciate not having to worry about where to leave your car.
The Setting
This place sits in Località Piazze, which is basically the middle of nowhere in the best possible way — you’re about 20 minutes from the medieval town of Radicofani and maybe 45 minutes to Pienza if you want to explore. What struck me most was how quiet it gets here, especially in the evenings when the only sounds are crickets and maybe a distant church bell. The property itself feels like stepping into one of those Tuscan postcards, except it’s real and you get to actually stay here. I spent way too much time just sitting on the terrace watching the light change across the valley — honestly, it’s the kind of view that makes you understand why people fall in love with this part of Italy.
The Room Experience
My room had this perfect mix of rustic charm and modern comfort that agritourism places sometimes struggle to balance. The stone walls and wooden beams give you that authentic farmhouse feel, but the bathroom was completely updated and the Wi-Fi actually worked well (which isn’t always a given out here in the countryside). What I really loved was how each room feels different — they’ve kept the character of the original building instead of making everything cookie-cutter. The beds are seriously comfortable too, and after a day of exploring hilltop towns, that matters more than you might think.
Dining and Atmosphere
The restaurant here focuses on farm-to-table cooking, and I mean that literally — they grow a lot of their own vegetables and source everything else from nearby farms. Dinner felt like eating at someone’s family table, if that family happened to be incredible cooks who knew exactly which local wine to pair with everything. Breakfast is served on the terrace when weather permits, and there’s something magical about starting your day with fresh pastries and strong coffee while looking out over olive groves. The staff treats you like a welcomed guest rather than just another tourist, which makes all the difference in a place like this.
Why Guests Love It
Couples especially seem to connect with this place — and honestly, I can see why. There’s something romantic about being tucked away in the Tuscan hills with nothing but rolling countryside in every direction. The location gets consistently high ratings because it strikes that perfect balance between peaceful isolation and accessibility to the region’s highlights. You’re far enough away to feel like you’ve escaped, but close enough to Val d’Orcia’s famous towns that you can easily explore during the day and return to your quiet retreat each evening. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay.
Hotels in Tuscany crown hilltowns, olive groves, and Renaissance palazzi perfumed with rosemary.
