Santa Maria Novella – WTB Hotels
Florence, ItalyFirst Impressions
Walking up to Santa Maria Novella – WTB Hotels feels like stumbling upon Florence‘s best-kept secret, honestly. The building sits right on Piazza Santa Maria Novella, which means you’re literally steps from one of the city’s most beautiful basilicas — I mean, you can’t get more central than this. What struck me immediately was how the hotel manages to feel both historic and welcoming without trying too hard. There’s something refreshing about a place that lets its location do most of the talking.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re in the absolute heart of Florence, but the piazza itself has this surprisingly peaceful quality, especially in the early mornings. The Santa Maria Novella train station is practically around the corner, which makes arriving with luggage actually manageable — no dragging suitcases over cobblestones for twenty minutes. From here, you can walk to the Duomo in about ten minutes, hit the Uffizi in fifteen, or just wander the leather markets that sprawl through the nearby streets. Couples seem to particularly love this area (they’ve rated the location 9.8), and I get why — there’s something romantic about having such an iconic Florentine piazza as your front yard.
The Rooms
The beds here are genuinely exceptional — and I’m someone who usually struggles to sleep well in hotels. There’s clearly been real thought put into the comfort factor, from the mattresses to the pillows. The rooms themselves strike that perfect balance between Florentine character and modern functionality. You’ll find thoughtful touches throughout, though what I appreciated most was how quiet everything felt despite being in such a bustling part of the city. The windows do their job well, which matters when you’re this close to a major piazza and train station.
Breakfast & Amenities
Breakfast comes as both continental and buffet options, which gives you flexibility depending on whether you’re rushing off to beat the crowds at major attractions or planning a leisurely morning. I actually found myself lingering over coffee more than usual — there’s something about starting your day looking out at the basilica that makes you want to slow down a bit. The fact that they offer private parking is honestly a game-changer if you’re driving in Florence (though I’d still recommend walking or taking public transport for most sightseeing). It’s one of those practical details that can make or break a trip when you’re dealing with Italian city centers.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back here isn’t just the prime location — though that 9.8 location score speaks for itself. It’s how the hotel manages to feel like a proper Florentine experience without the stuffiness you sometimes get at more formal places. You’re staying somewhere that locals actually pass by daily, not tucked away in some tourist bubble. The combination of genuinely comfortable accommodations and this unbeatable position in the city center creates something pretty special. When you can step outside and immediately feel like you’re part of Florence rather than just visiting it, well, that’s worth quite a lot.
To book a hotel in Tuscany during Palio weeks, visitors balance Siena contrada parades with countryside spa retreats.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Our room was quite tricky to get to - the hotel is like a maze. We had to take two lifts and up and down stairs. Once we knew our way though all good.

What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: I loved everything
What could be improved: It’s older so one has to set expectations on room size and configuration. The hotel is a building that is chopped into many rooms and hallways which included a lot of stairs.
