Residenza le Colline del Paradiso
Bivigliano, ItalyYou know what strikes you first about Residenza le Colline del Paradiso? It’s not just another hotel slapped with a fancy Italian name – this place actually lives up to it. Tucked away on Via del Viliani in Bivigliano, it feels like you’ve stumbled onto something the locals have been keeping to themselves. I mean, Bivigliano isn’t exactly on every tourist’s radar, which is honestly part of its charm. You’re maybe 20 minutes from Florence’s chaos, but you wake up to actual birdsong instead of Vespa engines revving at 7 AM.
The whole setup has this effortless elegance that doesn’t try too hard – you know those places that feel authentically Italian rather than playing up to what tourists expect Italy to be like? That’s this. The rooms have these gorgeous views that stretch across the Tuscan hills, and honestly, I spent way too much time on the terrace with my morning coffee just watching the mist roll through the valleys. The staff clearly knows their stuff too; they’ll point you toward the hiking trails that locals actually use, not just the overcrowded tourist paths. And here’s something I really appreciated – the parking situation is actually sorted out (anyone who’s driven in Italy knows this is huge), plus the whole place maintains that peaceful vibe even when it’s busy because, well, it’s never really that busy.
What really sold me on this place was how it handles that sweet spot between being refined and comfortable. The 9.3 rating isn’t just inflated booking site nonsense – you can feel it in the details. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the property, the beds are that perfect Italian firm-but-not-hard situation, and the breakfast spread focuses on local stuff rather than trying to please everyone with mediocre international options. If you’re planning to explore the Mugello area or just want a proper base for day trips to Florence without dealing with city hotel prices and crowds, this is your spot. Fair warning though – once you’ve had your aperitivo on their terrace watching the sun set over those hills, you’ll probably start planning your next trip back before you’ve even checked out.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Nothing. It was wonderful.
One thing we learned the hard way: definitely hire a car if you’re planning on exploring the area. Unfortunately, we didn’t, and there were no taxis available at all, which made getting around tricky. But if you’re planning to stay put and soak up the surroundings, you’re in for a treat.
The on-site restaurant was lovely — especially in the evenings — with a great atmosphere and delicious food. That said, the lunch menu could do with a few more options, just to mix things up a bit.
Our room was gorgeous — spacious, comfortable, and with perfect air conditioning, which was a godsend after a hot day in the sun. The pool was spotless and really peaceful, with breathtaking views that made it feel like a proper escape.
All in all, a beautiful hotel in an incredible location. Just don’t forget the hire car!
What could be improved: A bit cold on the floor, but it’s because of tiles
What could be improved: nothing
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: The road to the property is extremely curvy and narrow and it takes awhile to climb.
What could be improved: You have to get out of your car to type the passcode for the gate!, the facilities not open due to the season!, activities not available (not mentioned during my booking due to the season again!.
