When I first pulled up to Florence Country Residence, I thought my GPS had gotten confused – I mean, you’re driving through what feels like proper Tuscan countryside, not heading to a hotel. The place sits up in Vaglia, about 20 minutes north of Florence’s center, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. Via di Viliani winds through these rolling hills dotted with olive groves, and suddenly there it is: this beautifully restored villa that looks like it’s been part of the landscape forever.
The thing about staying here is that you get that authentic Tuscan experience without feeling like you’re roughing it. The rooms have this perfect balance – original stone walls and wooden beams that probably date back centuries, but then you’ve got modern bathrooms and actually decent Wi-Fi (trust me, that’s not a given in rural Italy). I stayed in October, and the mornings were crisp enough that I could hear church bells from some distant village echoing across the valley. The staff genuinely knows the area too – not just the touristy stuff, but like, which little osteria in Vaglia serves the best ribollita, or when the local market runs.
Here’s the practical bit: you’ll definitely need a car if you stay here, but parking’s never an issue, and the drive into Florence is actually pretty pleasant once you get used to those winding roads. The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it does what it does really well. The breakfast spreads out on this terrace overlooking the valley, and you can sit there for hours just watching the light change on the hills. During summer, I imagine it gets busier with families, but in shoulder season it has this peaceful, almost meditative quality. The only minor thing is that rooms facing the courtyard can pick up some noise from late diners, but honestly, it’s just the sound of people enjoying themselves over wine – very Italian, very charming. If you want to feel like you’re actually in Tuscany rather than just visiting it, this place gets it right.

What could be improved: The washing machine didn't work very well.
Extremely quiet and private, also because the residence is in a separated building versus the main hotel and restaurant, with its own swimming pool (despite all facilities can be used by all the guests).
Apartment was spacious, extremely well maintained and clean.
Swimming pool is big and there is enough space for everybody. BBQ facilities close by the pool (can be used also by night due to the light on the patios).
What could be improved: Mattresses were too hard.
What could be improved: Take care about the mosquitos in summer.
