Residenza La Musa Amarcord
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Residenza La Musa Amarcord? It’s tucked away on this narrow little street – Via Malenchini – that most tourists probably walk right past, but you’re literally a three-minute stroll from the Uffizi. I mean, I’ve stayed in Florence probably six times now, and I kept thinking “how did I miss this place?” The building itself has that perfectly worn Florentine elegance, the kind where the stone looks like it’s been polished by centuries of hands running along the walls.
The moment you step inside, honestly, it feels more like you’re staying at a well-traveled friend’s apartment than a hotel. The staff – and I’m pretty sure the same guy checked me in both times I’ve been there – actually remembers your name and asks about your plans instead of just handing over key cards. The rooms have this thoughtful, lived-in quality that’s hard to fake. Real wooden floors that creak just enough to feel authentic, windows that open onto the kind of view where you can watch locals heading to work in the morning with their tiny espresso cups. The bathrooms are small (well, it’s a historic building, what do you expect?) but they’ve got excellent water pressure and those fluffy towels that somehow always smell like lavender.
What really gets me is the location intelligence – you’re right in the heart of things but on a street that’s quiet enough to actually sleep. The Ponte Vecchio is maybe a five-minute walk, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of staying directly on the main tourist drags. There’s this little alimentari around the corner where the owner will slice you perfect prosciutto if you’re planning a picnic by the Arno, and honestly, the gelato place two blocks down (I think it’s called Vivoli?) is better than any of the touristy spots near the Duomo. Parking is… well, forget about it, but the train station is close enough that you can easily day-trip to Siena or even Bologna if you’re feeling ambitious. The only real downside is that rooms book up pretty quickly during peak season – I learned that the hard way trying to get a last-minute reservation in September. But with a 9.5 rating, I guess that’s not exactly shocking. This place gets Florence right in a way that a lot of hotels miss – it’s not trying to be a museum or a spa retreat, it’s just genuinely comfortable and perfectly positioned for people who want to actually experience the city.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: We were on street side, and, at times, it was a little loud in the morning. But that didn't bother us too much.
What could be improved: Nothing.
What could be improved: The only thing I could think of is the breakfast wasn’t that substantial, maybe some bigger croissants and/or some fruit would do the trick for future guests! 😊
What could be improved: No coffee maker or kettle in room
What could be improved: Nothing! Everything was perfect
We only had one full day to explore Florence before moving on to the next city, and he showed us all the must-visit locations in Florence and helped us map out a route to make the most of the time we had.
Thank you, Engli! Florence has our love, and we will definitely be back!
What could be improved: There is absolutely nothing to dislike :)
What could be improved: The place was great in its entirety!!
What could be improved: AC wasn't very powerful and we were a little hot some nights, but I think that's just Italy (our other other in different cities were the same way).
