Hotel Balestri – WTB Hotels
Florence, ItalyFirst Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Balestri – WTB Hotels on Piazza Mentana, you immediately understand why this place gets such rave reviews. I mean, you’re literally steps from the Uffizi Gallery — I could see tourists streaming past my window heading to see Botticelli’s masterpieces. The building itself has that classic Florentine charm without feeling stuffy or overly formal. What struck me right away was how the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, not just going through the motions like you get at some places.
Location That Actually Matters
Honestly, the location is pretty spectacular. You’re in the heart of Florence‘s historic center, but tucked away on a quieter piazza that doesn’t get the crazy foot traffic of the main tourist drags. The Ponte Vecchio is about a three-minute walk — I timed it because I’m that kind of person. What’s really nice is that you can easily walk to Santa Croce, the Duomo, or even across the river to Santo Spirito without breaking a sweat. The couples rating of 9.8 makes total sense; there’s something romantic about stepping out your door and being surrounded by Renaissance architecture.
The Room Experience
I’ll be straight with you — the beds here are genuinely comfortable. Not just “hotel comfortable” but actually restful, which matters when you’ve been walking on cobblestones all day. My room had this perfect balance of traditional Florentine style and modern functionality. The bathroom was well-appointed without trying too hard, and I appreciated having enough space to actually unpack my suitcase properly. The windows opened wide (very European, very nice) and the street noise was minimal considering how central everything is.
Breakfast Worth Waking Up For
The breakfast setup impressed me more than I expected. They’ve got a proper buffet with American options if you’re craving something familiar, but honestly, the Italian pastries and coffee are where it’s at. What I really appreciated was seeing gluten-free options clearly marked — not just an afterthought but actual care put into accommodating different needs. The breakfast room has these lovely views, and there’s something satisfying about planning your day over a proper cappuccino while watching Florence wake up outside.
Why Guests Love It
You know what makes this place work? It’s that sweet spot between being professionally run and feeling personal. The location score of 9.8 isn’t just marketing fluff — you really can walk everywhere that matters in Florence from here. But beyond that, it’s the little things: staff who remember your name, beds that don’t leave you tossing and turning, and a breakfast that doesn’t feel like an obligation. For couples especially, there’s something special about having this peaceful base in such a vibrant city. You get the romance of Florence right outside your door, but you also get a good night’s sleep.
Tuscany’s apartments welcome families with poolside pergolas, cooking classes, and day trips to Pisa’s leaning icon.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: No one’s fault, but the second night with no AC on a very hot night was not fun. There was a power outage in the city which somehow affected the AC in the whole hotel. We were jet lagged and very hot. The hotel brought us a small fan, but we had to rearrange our beds in order to get the most coverage. We tried leaving windows open at night but then the mosquitoes feast upon us. Again, we don’t blame the hotel, but it was a rough night with little sleep.
What could be improved: You expect more for this price range
Breakfast dining room was elegant and staff very friendly and helpful
What could be improved: Breakfast was not bad but room for improvement . Bread even cut straight from a new loaf was always a bit dry and eggs did not stay hot in the hot plate .
Beware if you arrive by car there is no parking on site and although there is a valet service for parking and delivers within a short time should you need the car it is a very expensive charge - approx 35-40 euros per night depending on size of car .
What could be improved: Lighting control was too complex but the staff response to the problem was excellent.
