Palazzo del Papa Country Suites
Siena, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Palazzo del Papa? It’s not actually in Siena proper – it’s tucked away on this quiet road called Strada di Poggio Ai Pini, which honestly took me a minute to find even with GPS. But here’s the thing: once you’re there, you realize that’s exactly the point. You get all the charm of staying near one of Italy’s most gorgeous medieval cities without the tourist chaos right outside your window.
The place has this authentic countryside villa vibe that a lot of hotels try to fake but can’t quite pull off. I mean, you’re surrounded by actual Tuscan hills and cypress trees, not some landscaped version of them. The suites – and they really are suites, not just rooms with a sitting area – have these thick stone walls that keep everything perfectly cool even in August. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious too, which matters when you’re dealing with Italian hotel standards. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night; you can actually hear the crickets and maybe some distant church bells from town, but no traffic noise at all.
The staff here actually knows the area, which sounds obvious but trust me, it’s not always the case. They pointed me toward this little osteria about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise – way better than anything touristy in the main piazza. Getting into Siena takes maybe fifteen minutes by car, and parking… well, parking in Siena is always a nightmare, but they helped sort out a spot near Porta Camollia, which is about as good as it gets. If you’re planning to explore other parts of Tuscany, the location is actually perfect – you can hit San Gimignano or Monteriggioni pretty easily, and the drive through the countryside is half the experience anyway. The only minor thing I’d mention is that you definitely need a car here; it’s not like you can just walk to restaurants or shops. But honestly, for a proper Tuscan escape where you can spread out in a real suite, sip wine on a terrace overlooking actual vineyards, and still be close enough to pop into Siena for dinner – this place gets it right. That 9.5 rating isn’t just hotels trying to sound impressive; it’s because people leave feeling like they experienced the real Tuscany, not the postcard version.

We had a fantastic experience at this beautiful, brand-new apartment. It’s tastefully and modernly furnished, with a premium kitchen that had everything we needed. The surroundings are stunning, and the view from the apartment is absolutely breathtaking.
Parking is just 5 minutes from the historic center, and there are convenient escalators that take you right into the heart of Siena. Edmondo, our host, is a true Florentine—kind 🙂, welcoming, and very helpful.
This is a perfect place for anyone visiting Siena, also by car. The private parking is secure and makes everything easy. Highly recommended!
Grazie mille, Edmondo🙂
What could be improved: -
What could be improved: The flight of stairs to the room but Edmondo was kind enough to help with the bag.
What could be improved: We did not rent a car while visiting the Tuscany region. Especially given that we were staying just outside of Siena, we would've enjoyed our trip even more if we had had a car. Instead, we had to taxi anytime we wanted to go anywhere.
What could be improved: nothing
