Porta Pispini Residence
Siena, ItalyYou know what caught me off guard about Porta Pispini Residence? The name makes it sound like some grand palazzo, but it’s actually this perfectly tucked-away gem on Via Peruzzi that feels more like staying at your well-traveled Italian friend’s apartment. I mean, it’s got that four-star polish without the stuffy hotel vibe – honestly, walking up to the entrance, you might almost miss it if you’re not paying attention, which is sort of the point.
The location is brilliant in that subtle way that only really hits you after you’ve been there a day or two. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Porta Pispini (one of the old city gates), which sounds touristy but actually puts you right where locals cut through to avoid the crowds around the Duomo. Via Peruzzi itself is this quiet residential street where you’ll hear more Italian conversations than camera clicks – there’s something really satisfying about that when you’re trying to get a feel for actual Siena life. The rooms have this clean, contemporary thing going on that works surprisingly well against the medieval bones of the building. Not trying to be too rustic or overly modern, just… comfortable, you know?
What really sold me was the little details that show someone actually thought about how people travel. The kitchenettes aren’t just for show – they’re actually functional if you want to grab ingredients from the market near Piazza del Mercato (about a seven-minute walk) and throw together a quick breakfast. The Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every time someone uses the elevator, parking isn’t a complete nightmare if you’re driving (though honestly, train into Siena is still your best bet), and the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to point you toward that excellent enoteca on Via di Città instead of just handing you a generic tourist map. The building gets pretty quiet at night, which is perfect if you’re planning to do some serious walking around the city center during the day – though you will hear the occasional Vespa puttering by in the early morning, but that’s just Siena being Siena. I’d definitely come back, especially if I was planning to stay more than just a quick weekend and wanted somewhere that felt less like a hotel pit stop and more like a proper base for exploring the city.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: There wasn’t anything we didn’t like, though the WiFi was patchy so mainly had to use data.
What could be improved: Air conditioner a little archaic and loud but did work
Both the bedroom and living room were very roomy and comfortable.
Kitchen equipped with a fridge, dishwasher, and washing machine.
TVs available in both the bedroom and living room.
Functional and reliable Wi-Fi.
Excellent view of the sunrise.
Many thanks to Aurora for the warm and friendly welcome!
What could be improved: Unfortunately, the apartment didn’t have a terrace, although one appears in the photos — it seems that only one of the apartments actually includes a terrace.
What could be improved: This is not a "didn't like" but a heads up to other travellers. We had to purchase our own coffee pods, which we didn't have to do anywhere else in Italy. The kitchen is well equipped but there are no condiments - not even salt or pepper or oil. They did provide one washing machine pod and one dishwasher pod for our four night stay.
You cannot get Netflix, or Youtube on the tv. TV stations only.
Friendly welcome by staff at the hotel.
Safe off street parking for our vehicle.
Sufficient room to have dinner with friends.
What could be improved: The shower mechanism requires replacing, as well as the cubicle which leaked water.
