First Impressions

Walking up to Palazzo Capponi on Via Dei Bardi, you’d honestly miss it if you weren’t looking for campanello number 20. This four-star boutique hotel sits quietly in one of Florence‘s most authentic neighborhoods, tucked away from the tourist crowds but — and here’s the thing — you’re literally a three-minute walk from Ponte Vecchio. I mean, you can see the Arno from some windows, which is pretty incredible when you think about it.

The Oltrarno Advantage

You know what’s brilliant about staying in this part of Florence? You’re in the Oltrarno district, which feels like where actual Florentines live and work. There are artisan workshops right on your street, and that morning coffee ritual at the local bar becomes part of your routine rather than a tourist activity. The couples who stay here absolutely love it — they’ve rated the location 9.8, and honestly, I get it. You can walk to the Uffizi in ten minutes, but you’re sleeping somewhere that feels genuinely Italian.

Your Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this wonderful mix of historical character and modern comfort that you don’t always find in Florence hotels. The beds here are genuinely exceptional — guests consistently rave about getting proper sleep, which is no small thing when you’re dealing with jet lag or after walking fifteen thousand steps around the city. The windows are thick enough to block out street noise, though honestly, Via Dei Bardi is pretty quiet anyway, especially compared to staying near the Duomo. Natural light floods through during the day, and the overall ambiance creates a peaceful retreat.

Practical Comforts

What I appreciated most was how thoughtfully everything was set up. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood — they’ll send you to the little restaurant around the corner that doesn’t have a tourist menu, or tell you which gelato place the locals actually go to (it’s not the one with the long line). The building itself has that palazzo feel without being stuffy about it, and the common areas have this relaxed elegance that makes you want to linger with a book. You’ll find thoughtful touches throughout that enhance your stay.

Why Guests Love It

Here’s the thing about Palazzo Capponi — it gives you that authentic Florence experience without sacrificing comfort. You’re staying in a real neighborhood where you’ll hear Italian conversations on the street, but you’re also close enough to everything that matters that you never feel isolated. The 9.2 rating makes sense when you experience how the location, the quality of sleep, and the genuine local knowledge of the staff all come together. It’s the kind of place where you actually feel like you’re living in Florence for a few days rather than just visiting it. The thoughtful service and attention to detail set this hotel apart from typical tourist accommodations.

Exploring Tuscany layers sunflower valleys, Renaissance masterpieces, and midnight gelato strolls.

If you get the split-level apartment, you are getting a once in a lifetime booking. The apartment is weird and has lots of stairs to different sections, it would not be great for small children or people with mobility issues. BUT if you are capable of some stairs, the place is the most amazing place you could stay in Florence. The outdoor area is so CRAZY BEAUTIFUL. You get your own incredible rooftop terrace with 360 degree views of Florence including the Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, and views of many churches. It was so insanely incredible. It rained on us a bit and we still got wet to sit out on the terrace. Incredible. Don't hesitate, just do it! Note: only the split level apartment has access to the rooftop terrace so you have to book that one to get it!

After seeing some of the photos online, I really wanted to stay in the first floor room with the cool ceilings and frescos. It was a very cool apartment with a few flaws. There was ample space in the bedroom and living room, but the kitchenette is MICRO tiny and there is no way you will be preparing any meals there. However, there is a microwave and fridge so you can reheat leftovers or keep some small items on hand like yogurt, fruit and cheese. The washing machine was located just outside our front door in a separate "closet" but it was not an inconvenience to use for a couple loads of laundry. The bed is a king sized bed and the AC units worked great and kept the room nice and cool at night. You enter the property from a very quiet alleyway on one side. There is a VERY busy street on the other side, but surprisingly, it was pretty quiet in the bedroom. We walked everywhere (taxis are incredibly hard to find in Florence), and we even walked to the train station on our way out of town - it was not that bad! As for views, we could mostly see the sidewalk and busy street from our room. We almost never opened the windows because it was so noisy, BUT we could see Ponte Vecchio and Ponte alle Grazie from the room. I would stay at the property again, but would probably pick a larger suite upstairs with a view!

In a great location, a few minutes walk to the Ponte Vecchio bridge and a short distance to all attractions with a good supermarket extremely close. The apartment was very comfortable including the bed. I would stay here again.

Location was fabulous. Area was quiet, away from the crowds and nice. The building was old, beautiful and interesting. Safe and having someone on duty to ask questions was helpful. Loved having our own apartment, very comfortable and private too.
