The lobby smells like that perfect mix of old wood and fresh lavender, and there’s this immediate sense that you’re somewhere real, not some corporate hotel chain trying to fake Italian charm.

The rooms are what I’d call “authentically elegant” – if that makes sense. Mine had these massive wooden beams overhead and windows that looked out toward the Chianti hills, which, let’s be honest, is exactly what you came to Tuscany to see. The bed was firm in that European way that takes a night to get used to, but the linens were genuinely nice quality. What I really appreciated was the attention to small stuff: good water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that actually worked, and – this might sound weird – but the WiFi was solid throughout the building. The staff runs the place like they actually care about it, which you notice in little things like how they remember your name and the fact that they stock local wines in the honor bar instead of generic bottles.

Here’s the thing about the location that makes it work so well – you’re about a 15-minute drive from the medieval center of Figline, where there’s this fantastic Saturday market and a couple of family-run trattorias that locals actually eat at. But you’re also positioned perfectly for day trips to Greve in Chianti (maybe 20 minutes) or even Florence if you don’t mind the drive. The hotel provides decent parking, which honestly matters more than you’d think when you’re navigating these narrow Tuscan roads with a rental car. Breakfast is served in what used to be the villa’s original dining room, with windows overlooking their small garden, and while it’s not elaborate, everything tastes like it came from nearby farms rather than industrial suppliers. The 8.7 rating feels about right – it’s the kind of place that does everything well without trying to be flashy about it, and you leave feeling like you experienced authentic Tuscany rather than a sanitized version of it.
