Magnolia
Greve in Chianti, ItalyYou know what caught me off guard about Hotel Magnolia? The fact that it’s tucked away in Lucolena in Chianti without feeling like it’s trying too hard to be “authentic Tuscan.” I mean, sure, it’s got that whole restored stone farmhouse thing going on, but there’s something genuinely relaxed about the place that you don’t always find at five-star properties in wine country.
The location is honestly perfect if you’re planning to do any serious Chianti exploring – you’re literally surrounded by some of the region’s best vineyards, and the drive into Greve in Chianti takes maybe fifteen minutes on those winding hill roads (which, fair warning, can be a bit nerve-wracking if you’re not used to narrow Italian country lanes). But here’s the thing: once you’re settled in, you won’t want to leave much. The staff actually knows the local winemakers personally, so they can set up tastings that feel more like visiting friends than doing the standard tourist circuit. I watched the concierge call up someone at Castello di Verrazzano like he was arranging a casual dinner party.
The rooms themselves strike that tricky balance between luxury and comfort – everything’s beautiful without being precious about it. You’ll find hand-painted tiles in the bathrooms and these massive wooden beams overhead, but also really good WiFi and blackout curtains that actually work (trust me on this one). The restaurant sources most ingredients from within a few kilometers, and honestly, their take on ribollita is better than what I’ve had in Florence. Parking is straightforward, which isn’t always a given in this part of Tuscany, and the pool area has these views across the valley that make you understand why people move here and never leave. The only minor thing – and this is really minor – is that the air conditioning can be a bit inconsistent in the older wing, but honestly, most evenings are cool enough that you won’t need it anyway. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because leaving feels like a mistake.

What could be improved: This is at best a 3 star accommodation. Not well equipped, not clean ( the blankets/curtains haven’t been cleaned in ages, lots of dust, etc)
Overall a very relaxing experience.
Will come back soon!
