Maison Bianca B&B
Florence, ItalyLook, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Maison Bianca on Viale Belfiore, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. It’s this understated building that you could easily walk past, but that’s actually part of its charm. The moment you step inside though, you realize you’ve found something special. The owner, Bianca (yes, it’s actually her name), greets you like you’re staying at your Italian aunt’s house, except your aunt has impeccable taste and probably studied interior design.
The location is what really sold me on this place. You’re in Santa Maria Novella, which means you can walk to the train station in about ten minutes – super handy if you’re doing the multi-city Italy thing. But here’s what the booking sites don’t tell you: you’re also just a few blocks from this incredible local market on Via Sant’Antonino where actual Florentines shop. I mean, forget the touristy San Lorenzo market for a second and go grab your morning coffee and pastry where the locals do. The B&B sits on a tree-lined street that’s quiet enough that you won’t hear scooters revving at 6 AM (trust me, this matters in Florence), but you’re still close enough to walk to the Duomo in about fifteen minutes.
What really gets me about Maison Bianca is the attention to detail that you only notice after you’ve been there a day or two. The breakfast – and I’m picky about breakfast – features local honey, fresh fruit from the market, and these incredible cornetti that Bianca sources from a bakery around the corner. The rooms themselves feel more like staying in a beautifully curated apartment than a hotel. Mine had these gorgeous hardwood floors that creaked just slightly (in a charming way, not annoying), and the bathroom had this rainfall shower that actually had decent water pressure. You know what I loved most though? The little balcony off my room where I could sit with my evening aperitivo and watch the neighborhood come alive. There’s something about seeing Italian families heading out for their evening passeggiata that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real Florence, not just the museum version. The WiFi worked perfectly (essential for staying connected), and Bianca always had great recommendations – she steered me toward this tiny osteria on Via del Sole that I never would have found otherwise. Honestly, with an 8.8 rating, this place delivers exactly what you’d hope for from a well-run B&B in one of the world’s most beautiful cities.
