Appartamento Cittadella 39
First Impressions
Walking up to Appartamento Cittadella 39, you immediately get that feeling you’re staying somewhere locals actually live — and I mean that in the best way possible. This four-star property sits right on Via Cittadella in the Santa Maria Novella district, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has that authentic Florentine charm without trying too hard, you know? It’s not flashy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the entrance that made me feel like I’d made a smart choice.
The Santa Maria Novella Advantage
Here’s what I love about this area — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from the tourist chaos to actually breathe. The train station is literally a few minutes away (perfect if you’re doing day trips to other Tuscan towns), and you can walk to the Duomo in about ten minutes. But what really sold me was discovering the local markets and cafes that tourists rarely find. There’s this little alimentari around the corner where I grabbed the best prosciutto sandwich, and the morning coffee ritual at the nearby bar became my daily routine.
The Space Itself
The apartment setup is what makes this place special — it’s not your typical hotel room experience. You get a proper living space with a kitchen that’s actually functional (I made pasta one night, because when in Florence, right?). The furnishings feel thoughtfully chosen rather than bulk-ordered from some hotel catalog. Everything’s clean and well-maintained, though I’ll be honest — it’s more about comfort and authenticity than Instagram-worthy indulgence. The bathroom’s modern enough, and the bed was genuinely comfortable after long days of walking on cobblestones.
Practical Perks
What I didn’t expect was how much I’d appreciate having that kitchen space. Being able to grab fresh ingredients from the Sant’Ambrogio market and prepare a simple breakfast saved money and gave me a more local experience. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly for the times I needed to check maps or make dinner reservations. Parking can be tricky in this part of Florence — honestly, I’d recommend just using public transport or walking everywhere. The apartment’s position means you’re well-connected to bus lines if you need them, though I rarely did.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.5 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed here — it’s that sweet spot between authentic local living and tourist-friendly amenities. Couples seem to really appreciate the intimate, residential feel (I can see why it gets high marks for romantic trips), and the excellent location score of 8.8 isn’t just marketing speak. You’re genuinely in one of Florence’s most livable neighborhoods. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers exactly what you want: a comfortable, well-located base that feels more like borrowing a friend’s apartment than staying in a generic hotel.
