Agriturismo La Camporena
Greve in Chianti, ItalyYou know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of agriturismos in Tuscany, but La Camporena in Greve in Chianti actually gets it right. It’s tucked away on Via Convertoie – honestly, you’ll probably miss the turn the first time because it’s one of those narrow roads that doesn’t look like it leads anywhere important. But that’s kind of the point. Once you wind up through the olive groves, you’re hit with this view that makes you understand why people move to Tuscany and never leave. The property sits on a hillside overlooking the Chianti valley, and I mean, the morning light hitting those vineyards is something you’ll want to photograph but know won’t translate properly to Instagram.
The rooms are in converted farm buildings – thick stone walls that keep things cool even in August, which is more than I can say for some of the fancier places I’ve stayed. There’s this rustic elegance thing happening that doesn’t feel forced or touristy. The owners, well, they’re actually from the area (not transplants from Milan trying to play farmer), and it shows in how they run the place. Check-in is relaxed – they’ll probably offer you a glass of their own wine while explaining the best routes to avoid the tour buses heading to San Gimignano. Speaking of which, you’re perfectly positioned here. Greve’s main piazza is maybe a 10-minute walk downhill, and honestly, that Saturday morning market is worth planning your whole trip around. But the real advantage is being close enough to hit the famous towns (Siena’s about 30 minutes) while staying somewhere that feels authentically Tuscan.
The breakfast alone justifies the stay – fresh ricotta, honey from their own hives, and this homemade jam that tastes like summer. They serve it on a terrace where you can watch the mist lift off the hills while planning your day. I actually ended up canceling a dinner reservation in Florence one night just to eat at their restaurant, which serves ingredients grown right on the property. The wine list is heavy on local Chianti Classico producers, some you won’t find anywhere else because they’re tiny family operations. Fair warning though – if you’re someone who needs a gym and a pool scene, this isn’t your place. There’s a small pool that’s perfect for cooling off after a day of wine tasting, but it’s more about the setting than the facilities. The WiFi works fine, parking is easy (just follow the gravel road), and the whole vibe is refreshingly low-key. At 8.6 rating, it’s earning those points through charm and location rather than marble bathrooms or turndown service – which, honestly, is exactly what you want from a real agriturismo experience.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: The only thing I can put my finger on is that the wi-fi didn't reach our room so we had to get closer to the reception to stay connected. A minor inconvenience.
What could be improved: A small refrigerator would be beneficial.
What could be improved: Everything was amazing
Everything about our stay was incredible. You can walk to Greve. Short and pretty hike down on the walking trail (20 min). Hike up is pretty intense but worth it.
What could be improved: Only thing to make our stay absolutely perfect would be to offer more variety with the breakfast.
We also had a nice dinner w cheese, ham and pasta, all very tasty. A bottle of their own classico from 2013 was a perfect match. Very smooth and high class wine. Recommended.
Have a glass of wine and look when the sun goes down among the hills. It is divine.
What could be improved: No wifi in our room but ok closer to the reception.
What could be improved: Shower water bearly warm. Heater couldn't turn on. Door key stuck in lock. Wifi doesn't work in room. Staffs speak no English at all.
