iConic Wellness Resort & Spa
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of wellness places across Tuscany, and honestly, iConic caught me off guard – in the best way possible. You know how some spa hotels try way too hard to be zen and end up feeling sterile? This isn’t that. When you pull up to Via Andrea della Robbia (which, by the way, is surprisingly quiet despite being in the city), there’s something genuinely calming about the whole setup without all the forced serenity nonsense.
The thing about Arezzo is that most tourists barrel through on their way to Florence or Siena, but staying here actually gives you this incredible home base feel. I mean, you’re literally walking distance from the Piazza Grande – you know, that sloped medieval square where they filmed Life is Beautiful – but you get to retreat back to actual luxury instead of some cramped historic hotel room. The spa treatments here are… well, let’s just say they know what they’re doing. I tried their signature massage (can’t remember the exact name, but it involved local herbs), and honestly, I’ve had expensive treatments in Milan that didn’t come close. The therapist actually asked about my stress points instead of just going through the motions, which seems rare these days.
What really sold me though was the little stuff – the way they handle breakfast isn’t rushed, the pool area gets perfect afternoon light, and the staff genuinely seems to know the area. When I mentioned wanting to find good local ceramics, the front desk guy (Marco, maybe?) didn’t just point me toward tourist shops but actually drew me a little map to this workshop his cousin runs. That’s the kind of thing you can’t fake. The rooms themselves are comfortable without being flashy – good beds, actual water pressure, and thank god, proper air conditioning for those brutal August afternoons. Parking was easy, which anyone who’s driven through Italian city centers will appreciate. Is it perfect? Well, the wifi could be stronger, and if you’re expecting cutting-edge modern design, you might be disappointed – but honestly, the slightly old-school elegance works. It feels like a place where you can actually relax instead of constantly photographing everything for Instagram. For what you get – especially considering you’re in the heart of one of Tuscany’s most underrated cities – the value is pretty solid.
