Hotel Torre di Bellosguardo
Florence, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Florence, and Hotel Torre di Bellosguardo honestly caught me off guard. You know how most hotels in the city center feel like they’re crammed into converted Renaissance palaces with tiny rooms and paper-thin walls? This place is completely different – it’s actually built around a 14th-century tower (hence the name) and sits up on a hill in the Oltrarno district, which means you’re getting these incredible views over the whole city without dealing with the tourist madness below.
The location on Via Roti Michelozzi is sort of perfect in that sneaky way where you feel like you’ve discovered something. I mean, you’re technically still in Florence, but it’s this quiet residential street that most visitors never see. The walk down to Ponte Vecchio takes maybe 15 minutes – though I’ll warn you, it’s uphill coming back, especially after a long day of sightseeing. What I really loved though was how you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of Vespas and tour groups. The rooms in the tower itself have this almost medieval feel (thick stone walls, arched windows), but they’ve modernized everything without ruining the character. My room had original frescoed ceilings and a bathroom that was surprisingly spacious – you know how Italian hotels can be with their tiny showers.
The breakfast terrace is honestly where this place shines. You’re sitting there with your cappuccino, looking out over the Arno valley and the Duomo in the distance, and it just hits you that you’re having this moment that most people never get to experience. The staff seems to actually live in Florence (not just work there), so they’ll tell you about the little osteria down the hill that doesn’t have a sign, or mention that the San Miniato church is only a ten-minute walk away and has better views than Piazzale Michelangelo with none of the crowds. Parking is included, which is huge if you’re doing a Tuscany road trip – try finding that anywhere else in Florence. The only thing I’d mention is that some of the rooms in the main building are a bit more standard hotel-ish compared to the tower rooms, so it’s worth asking specifically about room types when you book. But honestly, at an 8.6 rating, this place has figured out how to give you that authentic Florence experience without the usual compromises.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Nothing. It was perfect.
What could be improved: The property is old so some things didn’t work like the window and the door handle fell off but you expect this with an old property
What could be improved: The breakfast was not appetizing - it would have been nice to have had some hot foods instead of just cold things.
What could be improved: The breakfast was a bit lacking but generally ok.
What could be improved: It had nothing that I didn’t like
The property is unique in a beautiful setting, it was nice to be away from the crowds in Florence city centre and have the opportunity to stay in a 12th, to 13th century villa. The surrounding gardens are beautiful.
What could be improved: Maybe coffee in the room. .
What could be improved: Slightly far out from the city. But still walkable
