Hotel Sina Astor
Viareggio, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Hotel Sina Astor? It’s got this quietly confident thing going on – like it doesn’t need to scream “luxury” at you because it already knows what it is. Sitting right on Viale Carducci, you’re basically a two-minute walk from Viareggio’s main beach stretch, but here’s the thing most people don’t realize: you’re far enough from the crazy weekend crowds that cluster around the Bagno Balena area. I mean, you can still hear the occasional Vespa puttering by (this is Italy, after all), but it’s not the chaos you get closer to the pier.
The rooms have that understated Italian elegance – think clean lines and actual quality linens, not the flashy gold-everything you might expect. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to keep the old-world charm without making you feel like you’re staying in your nonna’s house. The breakfast situation is honestly pretty solid too; they do this thing with local focaccia that’s way better than the usual hotel croissant routine. Staff-wise, they actually seem to know the area – when I asked about getting to the Cinque Terre for a day trip, the guy at the front desk didn’t just hand me a brochure, he told me which train times would beat the tourist rush. Small thing, but it matters.
Here’s what really won me over though: the location gives you options. Sure, you’re close to the beach promenade where everyone’s doing the evening passeggiata, but you can also easily walk to Via Regia where the locals actually eat – there’s this little osteria called Da Romano that the hotel staff quietly recommended, and honestly, it was the best meal of my trip. The hotel itself feels like it gets this balance between being accessible to the touristy stuff but not being trapped in it. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle during peak summer (July and August get pretty intense), but they’ve got arrangements with a nearby garage. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals would actually approve of – not too flashy, not trying too hard, just genuinely good at what it does.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: - The room I was in -corner on the sea side- had a strange shape, which had a 2 person bed with the side against the wall
What could be improved: Two minor criticisms. Buffett items were always so well presented but rarely if at all labelled so guests did not know the name of the dish and what was being served up.
The lovely glass balustrade suffered from the effects of the setting sun which would reveal extensive cleaning wipe marks/smears where cleaning fluids/water had perhaps dried prematurely. It did detract from the otherwise lovely dining room ambience
What could be improved: It didn’t have the 5 star feel to it as all facilities felt a bit outdated. We expected better quality hotel as it was priced high.
What could be improved: Nothing, it is a lovely place and we hope to come again soon
What could be improved: Lack of bathrobe in the room. Not sufficient space in parking. Hilarious and dramatic in same time setup of indoor swimming pool. I have never been in hotel were you need to entry swimming pool via gym and you need head cup! Worse to say. Change room is one level down so you need to walk back via gym to change room. Lack of sunbeds and you are enforced to entry pool zone via automatic shower… view of parents holding baby and their stuff and surprise about enabling shower priceless :) architect of this place probably was never using a swimming pool or was a simple idiot.
What could be improved: Nothing
Pool and gym amazing.
We didn’t like that we were on the side of the building where it got very hot in the afternoon, and the room was a bit too uncomfortable to be in.
