First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel President on Corso Giacomo Matteotti, you immediately get the sense that this place has been welcoming guests for decades — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. The building sits right in the heart of Montecatini Terme‘s most coveted area, where couples seem to gravitate (they’ve rated the location 8.8, which makes perfect sense once you’re here). There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the entrance that I actually appreciated — no marble lobbies or over-the-top grandeur, just solid hospitality in one of Tuscany’s most famous spa towns.

Prime Montecatini Location

You know what really struck me about staying here? You’re literally steps away from everything that makes Montecatini Terme special. The famous thermal baths are practically around the corner, and those elegant Belle Époque buildings that define the town center are right there when you step outside. I mean, you can walk to the funicular that takes you up to Montecatini Alto in about five minutes — something the locals will tell you is essential for those sunset views over the valley. The fact that this spot scored 8.8 for location isn’t just marketing speak; couples really do love wandering these tree-lined streets together, especially in the evening when the whole area takes on this romantic, old-world atmosphere.

The Rooms

The accommodations at Hotel President feel like what you’d expect from a well-maintained Italian hotel — comfortable without trying too hard to impress. My room was clean and functional, with that slightly formal European style that grows on you after a day or two. The beds are actually quite comfortable (I’m picky about this), and there’s enough space to spread out your things without feeling cramped. What I appreciated most was how quiet it stayed at night, despite being on such a central street — apparently the windows do their job well, because Corso Matteotti can get a bit lively during peak season.

Breakfast Experience

Breakfast here is where Hotel President really shows its Italian heart. They’ve got this buffet setup that covers all the bases — continental options for international guests, but also proper Italian choices that locals would actually eat. I was pleasantly surprised to see gluten-free options clearly marked, which isn’t always a given in smaller Italian hotels. The coffee is solid (this is Italy, after all), and there’s usually fresh fruit and decent pastries. Nothing revolutionary, but it sets you up well for a day of exploring the thermal parks or hiking up to the medieval village above town.

Why Guests Love It

Here’s the thing about Hotel President — it delivers exactly what most people need from a Montecatini Terme stay without any unnecessary fuss. You’ve got private parking (which is actually a big deal in this area, trust me), you’re in the absolute best part of town for accessing everything, and the staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you’re comfortable. It’s not trying to be a destination hotel, and that’s perfectly fine because Montecatini itself is the real attraction. For couples especially, this becomes your reliable home base while you soak in thermal waters, explore Tuscan hill towns, or simply enjoy those long Italian dinners that stretch well into the evening.

Tuscany’s hotels pair barrel-aging cellars, fresco breakfasts, and concierge-led Siena cathedral climbs.

A good deal if the price is right - clean, free parking, good location. Our overnight stay was surprisingly inexpensive - a very good value for the money. Thank you Booking.com!

What could be improved: The owner informed us on arrival that they only accept small dogs. When I informed them that Booking.com does not specify the size of dogs allowed when making a reservation, the hotel let us stay with our well-behaved Boxer.
