Hotel Boston
You know what struck me first about Hotel Boston? It’s actually nothing like what you’d expect from the name – this place is pure Italian charm, sitting right on Viale Bicchierai in one of those perfectly tree-lined sections of Montecatini Terme that feels like stepping into a postcard. I mean, the thermal town itself is already pretty magical, but this hotel manages to capture that old-world spa elegance without feeling stuffy or pretentious.
The location is honestly brilliant if you know Montecatini at all. You’re literally a five-minute stroll from the main thermal parks (Tettuccio and Excelsior), but far enough from the tourist crowds that you can actually hear yourself think. The street has this lovely residential feel – locals walking their dogs in the evening, the scent of jasmine from nearby gardens, that sort of thing. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, which is rare for a 4-star place in a popular spa destination. The staff clearly knows the area inside and out too – they pointed me toward this tiny family-run osteria on Via Garibaldi that I never would’ve found otherwise, and it ended up being the best meal of my trip.
The hotel itself has that classic Italian attention to detail that you either get or you don’t – and these folks definitely get it. The rooms have this warm, lived-in elegance (think rich fabrics and actual wooden furniture, not that generic hotel stuff), and honestly, the beds are fantastic. I’m usually pretty picky about pillows, but I slept like a baby every night. The breakfast situation deserves a mention too – proper Italian coffee, fresh pastries from what I’m pretty sure is a local bakery, and they do this thing with fresh fruit that’s just… well, it’s the kind of spread that makes you want to linger over your cappuccino instead of rushing out to sightsee. There’s also this lovely terrace area where you can sit in the morning sun, and if you’re there in spring or early summer, the whole place smells like blooming linden trees from the boulevard. Check-in was smooth as silk, and the concierge – an older gentleman who’s clearly been in Montecatini forever – had incredible recommendations for everything from hiking trails in the nearby hills to which thermal treatments are actually worth your time versus the tourist traps.
