Hotel Minerva
Arezzo, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Hotel Minerva? It’s got this understated elegance that actually feels Italian rather than trying too hard to be fancy. The building sits right on Via Fiorentina, which honestly works out perfectly because you’re close enough to everything but not stuck in the tourist chaos of the centro storico. I mean, you can walk to Piazza Grande in maybe fifteen minutes, but you’re also right there when you need to catch a bus or – let’s be real – when you’ve got luggage and don’t want to drag it over those medieval cobblestones.
The lobby has this warm, lived-in feel with marble floors that aren’t too shiny (you know how some hotels go overboard with the polished stone?). What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know Arezzo – not just the obvious tourist spots but practical stuff like which morning markets are worth checking out and when the good restaurants stop serving lunch. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place, nothing groundbreaking but genuinely comfortable. The beds are firm in that European way, and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which honestly can be hit or miss in this part of Tuscany. I stayed on the third floor and it was properly quiet at night – no street noise, which surprised me given that Via Fiorentina gets some traffic during the day.
Here’s the thing about this location that the booking sites don’t really capture: you’re in the newer part of Arezzo, which means actual parking options (the hotel has a garage, thank god) and you’re near places locals actually go. There’s a fantastic pasticceria maybe two blocks away that does proper cornetti, and the evening passeggiata route goes right past the hotel. The antique market on the first Sunday of each month? You’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Grande where it all happens. But what I really liked was how easy it made exploring beyond Arezzo – the train station is close enough that day trips to Florence or Siena don’t feel like a production. The staff was genuinely helpful with train schedules, not just the touristy stuff. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with innovative design or anything, but Hotel Minerva does what a good hotel should do: it makes your stay smooth so you can focus on why you came to Arezzo in the first place. That 8.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s the kind of place that gets the basics right and adds enough thoughtful touches that you’d definitely stay again.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Bathroom not 100% clean.
Breakfast was good, including a variety of breads, fresh coffee, juice, cheeses, deli meats, yogurt, and regional specialties like cakes, pies, honey, and homemade jams. On some busy days, there was a lack of some items or took longer to be replaced.
I took dinner in the restaurant one night, and everything was lovely. I had a good pasta perfectly cooked, the salt bread was absolutely delicious and the wine was excellent. I also was recommended by the staff to try a regional liqueur made by olive leaves, which surprised me.
What could be improved: It is a big hotel that receives groups and hold conventions, so if the guest is looking for a more local and smaller hotel, I do not recommend it.
What could be improved: hard and uncomfortable blanket.
What could be improved: All was great
What could be improved: AC is automatically turned off around 2am and the room becomes hotter quick (especially now during the summer). To turn it on again, we needed to ask the reception. Turned off again during the morning.
