Le Lappe

You know what struck me first about Le Lappe? It’s tucked away in this little hamlet called Rimontoli – and I mean really tucked away. You’ll drive through typical Tuscan countryside, probably second-guessing your GPS, until you reach the Montegonzi area near Cavriglia. Honestly, that’s part of the charm. This isn’t some cookie-cutter hotel on a busy street; it’s the kind of place where you actually hear crickets at night and wake up to actual birdsong instead of traffic. The building itself has that weathered stone look that screams authentic Tuscany – not the fake rustic stuff you see in chain hotels, but the real deal where you can tell the walls have stories.

The staff here gets it, you know? They’re not rushing you through check-in or hovering with fake smiles. When I stayed, the woman at reception actually drew me a little map showing the best route to avoid the tourist crowds in nearby Arezzo (about 20 minutes away). The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – comfortable beds, decent bathroom, nothing revolutionary but everything works. What I loved was the attention to small details: proper thick towels, local ceramics instead of generic hotel stuff, and windows that actually open wide so you get that fresh Tuscan air rolling in. The Wi-Fi was surprisingly good too, which matters if you’re trying to work remotely from paradise.

But here’s the thing about Le Lappe – it’s really about the location and the feeling you get being there. You’re in proper Chianti country here, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards that stretch as far as you can see. The closest “real” town is Cavriglia, but you’re also perfectly positioned for day trips to Siena (maybe 45 minutes) or even Florence if you don’t mind an hour drive. I actually preferred staying here and venturing out rather than dealing with city hotel noise and crowds. The breakfast was surprisingly good – local cheeses, decent coffee, and they source a lot from nearby farms. Fair warning though: you’ll definitely want a car if you stay here. This isn’t a walk-to-restaurants kind of place, but that’s exactly why it works. It’s peaceful in a way that’s hard to find in more accessible spots. The fact that it’s got a 9.3 rating makes perfect sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, just doing the quiet countryside retreat thing really, really well.
