Fattoria Pogni
Certaldo, ItalyYou know what caught me off guard about Fattoria Pogni? The moment you turn off the main road toward Marcialla and start climbing Via Pogni di Sopra, it actually feels like you’re driving into someone’s private world. I mean, this isn’t your typical Tuscan agriturismo that’s been sanitized for tourists – it’s the real deal, sitting up there at 159 like it’s been watching over the Chianti hills forever.
The property itself is honestly stunning in that understated way that only happens when a place has genuine history. The buildings have that weathered stone look that you can’t fake, and the grounds… well, they’re not manicured like some resort, but they’re beautifully maintained in a way that feels natural. What I loved most was how quiet it gets in the evenings – you’re far enough from Florence (maybe 45 minutes if you know the back roads) that there’s no city noise, just countryside sounds and the occasional church bell from one of the nearby villages. The rooms have this authentic farmhouse feel without being rustic to the point of discomfort, if that makes sense. Good Wi-Fi too, which honestly surprised me given how tucked away you are.
Here’s the thing about staying in Marcialla that most people don’t realize – you’re actually perfectly positioned for day trips but far enough out that you get to experience real Tuscan life. The locals at the little alimentari down the hill were genuinely friendly (not tourist-friendly, just… friendly), and there’s something to be said for waking up to actual farmland views instead of tour buses. The breakfast situation was particularly good – fresh everything, obviously, and they source a lot from their own property and neighboring farms. I’d honestly put this place up against any of the fancier options closer to San Gimignano, but here you’re getting authenticity and that 9.5 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. The staff knows the area inside and out too, so they’ll steer you toward those hidden wine cellars and family-run trattorias that you’d never find otherwise. It’s not cheap, but it’s not trying to be – it’s just really, really good at what it does.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: The bed was comfortable and clean but very squeaky. Literally every movement comes with a noise.
What could be improved: We were accommodated in an apartment that did not have a separate bedroom, although the Booking website stated otherwise. The bedroom was located on the upper floor, but without any separation from the rest of the accommodation. This was a problem for us, especially since we were traveling with a small child. Otherwise, the accommodation was beautiful.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Nothing.
The breakfast was tasty and varied, with plenty of options to choose from. If I had to mention one small thing, it would be that the selection leaned a bit more toward the sweet side; a bit more savory variety would have been a nice balance.
What could be improved: The villa we stayed in had a bit of an old feel and a slight musty smell, likely due to the age of the building.
What could be improved: Uncomfortable beds and tennis racquets need upgrading
What could be improved: Nothing my family and I didn’t like.
