VIA NALDINI n 61
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to VIA NALDINI n 61 – the name alone sounds more like a street address than a hotel (which, well, it basically is). But honestly, that’s part of its charm. This little 4-star gem sits right on Via Benedetto Naldini in Tavarnelle in Val di Pesa, and I mean *right* in the heart of things. You’re not stuck in some tourist bubble here – you’re actually living like a local in one of Tuscany’s most authentic wine towns.
The building itself has that weathered Tuscan stone look that you can’t fake, and when you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of being in someone’s really well-appointed home rather than a typical hotel. The rooms are spacious – I mean genuinely spacious, not “European spacious” – and the beds are the kind where you actually sleep through the night instead of tossing around on some rock-hard mattress. What really got me was the attention to detail… like, they’ve got these beautiful terracotta floors that stay cool even in summer, and the windows open wide (actual windows that open, imagine that) so you get these amazing cross-breezes in the evening. The bathrooms are modern without being sterile, which is honestly a rare find in these historic buildings.
But here’s the thing about staying in Tavarnelle – you’re perfectly positioned between Florence and Siena, but without the crowds and inflated prices. I could walk to the local enoteca in about three minutes, and the woman there knew more about Chianti Classico than most sommeliers. There’s this little trattoria just around the corner where the locals eat (I won’t name it because it’s already crowded enough), and the hotel staff actually gave me proper directions there, not just the tourist spots. The 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just really, really good at what it does. Parking was easy, check-in was smooth, and the staff spoke enough English to help but weren’t hovering around constantly. I actually extended my stay by two nights because I realized this was the perfect base for exploring the Val di Pesa wine region without fighting Florence traffic every day. If you’re looking for a place that feels authentic but doesn’t make you sacrifice comfort, this is it.

The guy at reception was extremely friendly and helpful.
There’s free public parking available on the street opposite the hotel, as well as paid, secure private parking (also on the street, uncovered).
The location is peaceful, with plenty of great restaurants nearby, and a Coop supermarket 7 minutes walk away.
