Casale meraviglioso Val d’Orcia con piscina
Radicofani, ItalyYou know what struck me first about this place? The name isn’t kidding around – “Casale meraviglioso” really does mean marvelous farmhouse, and honestly, they nailed it. This converted stone farmhouse sits right along the old Via Francigena pilgrimage route in Radicofani, which means you’re literally staying on a path that medieval travelers walked centuries ago. I mean, how cool is that? The whole property has this authentic Tuscan soul that you just can’t fake – thick stone walls, original wooden beams, and that particular kind of quiet you only get in the Val d’Orcia countryside.
The location is actually perfect if you want to explore the area without dealing with tourist crowds. Radicofani itself is this tiny hilltop town that most people just drive past on their way to more famous spots, but that’s exactly what makes it special. You’re about a 20-minute drive from Pienza (trust me, go there for the pecorino cheese), and Montalcino is maybe 30 minutes away. The thing is, you’ll probably find yourself just wanting to hang around the property – especially once you discover that pool. It’s not huge, but it’s perfectly positioned with views rolling across those classic Tuscan hills with their cypress trees and golden wheat fields. I spent way too many afternoons there with a book and a glass of local wine, just watching the light change across the landscape.
The rooms have that rustic-elegant thing going on without feeling too precious about it. Everything’s been thoughtfully restored – modern bathrooms, good WiFi (surprisingly solid for rural Tuscany), and comfortable beds, but they kept all the character details that make you feel like you’re staying in someone’s beloved family home rather than a generic hotel. The breakfast spread features local ingredients, and the staff actually knows the farmers and producers they source from, which I always appreciate. Parking’s easy and free, which is a blessing after navigating some of those narrow medieval streets in nearby towns. The 9.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s the kind of place where small touches add up to something really special, and you leave feeling like you’ve experienced authentic Tuscany rather than just photographed it.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Cucina piccola. Wi-Fi funziona solo dove è posizionata centralina. Funziona malissimo negli altri locali.
What could be improved: Strada di accesso non molto agevole. Zona notte in proporzione leggermente meno curata della zona giorno e del giardino.
What could be improved: Nvt
What could be improved: L’arredo è un po’ datato, ma si tratta di una tipica casa di campagna, quindi comprensibile. Unica cosa che, a causa del maltempo, abbiamo trovato il casolare molto freddo.
What could be improved: Some of the kitchen equipment (Mouli Food Mill, blender, toaster) could do with being replaced.
What could be improved: Gli insetti, ma d'altronde siamo in aperta campagna...
