Fair warning though: this isn’t the kind of place where you just pop in for a quick overnight. San Casciano dei Bagni is pretty remote – about an hour from Siena, maybe 45 minutes from Montepulciano – so you’re really committing to staying put and embracing the whole thermal retreat experience. Which honestly? That’s exactly what you should do. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward little medieval villages and family-run wineries that tourists usually miss completely. I spent three nights there last September and barely wanted to leave the property except for a quick trip to nearby Sarteano for dinner one evening. The whole place just has this restorative energy that’s hard to fake – probably helps that you’re literally soaking in healing waters that have been bubbling up from the earth for centuries.
