First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Casale del Mare, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked away on Strada Vicinale Spianate. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that surprise you. This converted farmhouse sits on a hillside overlooking the Tuscan coast, and there’s something genuinely charming about how it blends rustic Italian architecture with modern comfort. The free parking right on-site was a relief too — anyone who’s driven around Castiglioncello knows how tricky finding a spot can be during peak season.

Location Magic

I mean, couples rating this location 9.0 out of 10 tells you something, right? The hotel sits just far enough from the main tourist hustle to feel peaceful, but you’re still only a short drive from Castiglioncello’s beautiful beaches and that dramatic coastline the area’s famous for. What really struck me was how you get these sweeping views of the Mediterranean from the property — it’s the kind of spot where you actually want to wake up early just to watch the sunrise over the water. The recent guest rating of 9.1 for location makes total sense when you experience it firsthand.

The Room Experience

My room had this lovely mix of traditional Tuscan touches and contemporary amenities that actually worked well together. The furnishings felt authentic rather than trying too hard to be “rustic chic,” if you know what I mean. What I appreciated most was the attention to comfort — good air conditioning (essential in summer), quality linens, and windows that actually opened to let in that sea breeze. The bathrooms are well-appointed without being flashy, and honestly, after a day exploring the coast, that’s exactly what you want.

Breakfast Worth Waking For

The breakfast spread here is genuinely impressive — they’ve got this buffet setup that covers all the bases with continental, Italian, vegetarian, gluten-free, and even American options. I loved that they didn’t just phone it in with generic hotel fare. The Italian selections were particularly good, featuring local cheeses, fresh pastries, and proper espresso that actually tasted like Italy. They clearly put thought into accommodating different dietary needs, which you don’t always find at smaller properties like this.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something about Casale del Mare that just works — it’s got that sweet spot between being polished enough for a proper getaway but relaxed enough that you don’t feel like you’re performing vacation. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience rather than just going through the motions, and the property itself has character without being precious about it. For couples especially, I can see why this place hits the mark — it’s romantic without being overly staged, and that location really does deliver those postcard moments you’re hoping for on the Italian coast.

Hotel in Tuscany reservations surge before white truffle fairs when hilltown piazzas brim with foodies.

Fabulous place, out of the way of the summer melee which is what we were after. Fantastic location and views.

Location was good, nice environment. Our little dog appreciated the large 'back yard' that she turned into her private playground
View was very nice. On good days it was possible to see Corsica.
Our host was excellent. She had time for short chats and provided a very useful suggestion for the last day of our stay. Her English is excellent.

Stunning location, Laura, the host was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Apartment was very spacious and clean, the large terrace had excellent views of the sea and we really enjoyed sunsets there. Pool was spacious and very quiet, our family was alone at the pool the majority of the time. Access to a washing machine for a small fee.

We wished we were staying longer and look forward to returning in the future.

Amazing couples getaway at Casale del Mare! Beautiful property surrounded by nature - horses, vineyards and olive trees. The pool, restaurant and location were a dream. Once you arrive, it's a stellar place with friendly staff and a delicious restaurant for dinner. Breakfast was nothing fancy, but not bad.

Laura the host and owner made us fabulouse expressos and some breakfast cake. She answered all our questions
and greeted us the evening before even though we booked at the last minute and she had no ideas we were coming
She asked us to wait a few minutes to open the security gate because she was in the wine cellar. She's a professional
sommelier, and greeted us a few minutes later with wine stained fingers. She personally took us to our rooms and
made sure we were comfortable. Got us a table at the restaurant next to her Villa and we had an 8 course fine dining experience. Her chef was from Peuglia and we instantly regretted leaving our phones in our rooms to take phots.
She lived in the U.S. for many years so she spoke perfect English as well. She couldn't have been more inviting or accommodating and she's the owner! She also makes her own olive oil and red, white and rose wine, of whichs we bought and she arranged to be shipped to the states. This place is one of those places that you hear from your friends that they stumbled upon out of nowhere in another country. We got lucky because it's the off season. In the summer it's packed. To walk outside your room, see vineyards and horses and beyond that a beach and ships on the horizon is unbelieveable.*
