Casa Vacanze Podere San Giusto Volterra
Volterra, ItalyYou know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Tuscany, but Casa Vacanze Podere San Giusto is one of those spots that actually gets it right. It’s about a 10-minute drive from Volterra proper – which honestly is perfect because you get all the medieval charm without the tourist crowds stumbling past your window at midnight. The property sits on this gorgeous hillside along the Strada Provinciale Volterrana, and I mean, the views are pretty spectacular. You can see the ancient Etruscan walls of Volterra from certain angles, especially beautiful at sunset when everything turns golden.
The whole place feels like someone’s well-loved family estate that they decided to share with travelers, not some corporate hotel chain trying to fake rustic charm. The rooms have that authentic Tuscan farmhouse vibe – thick stone walls that keep things cool even in August, wooden beams that creak just enough to remind you you’re in an old building, and windows that frame the rolling countryside like paintings. I stayed here in late spring and honestly, waking up to the sound of birds and distant church bells instead of traffic was exactly what I needed. The hosts actually live on the property, which means you get real local recommendations – they told me about this tiny osteria in town that I never would have found otherwise.
What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail. The Wi-Fi actually works (crucial when you’re trying to upload those Instagram shots), there’s proper parking so you don’t have to navigate narrow medieval streets with a rental car, and the breakfast setup is thoughtful without being fussy. They source ingredients locally – the pecorino cheese is from a farm maybe 20 minutes away, and the olive oil tastes like it came straight from the trees you can see from the terrace. The whole property feels peaceful in a way that’s hard to find these days. You’re close enough to walk into Volterra for dinner or to visit the Etruscan museum, but far enough out that you feel like you’re really in the Tuscan countryside. Plus, if you’re planning to explore other hill towns like San Gimignano or Siena, this makes a great base – you’re right on the main road but tucked away enough that you forget about traffic entirely. I mean, with a 9.9 rating, it’s clearly not just me who thinks this place is special.

We had coffee, tea, full kitchen for our disposal. Despite late arrival we had amazing food left in the kitchen: bread, some coockies, olive oil they produce, home made pomegranate jam, lavender honey, eggs from their chicken. There were also homemade lavender products left to buy - I purchased the candle.
The place is very clean with nice vanity products fro Idea Toscana company - very nice, local touch.
All info was printed and left for us in our language - we were moved by this. Wish we had stayed there longer than one night. Great place to come for longer relaxing holiday.
Thanks to the owner’s kind gesture and consideration, house was already heated with comfortable temperature when we have checked in at night. We also found a surprise breakfast item, sweets breakfast, drinks yogurt, eggs much and more on the dining table. This was very useful. We originally thought of grabbing the breakfast on the way after the check out. Instead, we could have a breakfast at the comfort of the house before checking out.
Also, communication was great too. Owner speaks English is great plus in Italy for non Italian speaker.
Since it was winter and we just stayed for 1 night just to sleep over, unfortunately I could not use outdoor facility.
It would have been nice to chill out in the outdoor area with BBQ during the summer months with scent of Lavender around you overlooking the Tuscan countryside to relax our mind from the daily hectic life.
If you are looking for the place to stay, this is such a rare to find with full of comfort and lovely owner family with heart of Gold – not to be missed. You will never regret it.
I highly recommend this place to anyone. In fact, I cannot recommend enough and cannot describe how great it is. One must experience it to know and appreciate this gem.
Thank you so much for the unforgettable stay. It was a truly magical experience.
What could be improved: Absolutely Nothing
What could be improved: nothing to mention
The apartment was very clean and comfortable. There was a very generous welcome basket in the kitchen and in the fridge, full of local products. This attention to detail continued with the high quality Tuscan soap, creme, shampoo, etc. as well as bath robes that were provided.
Location is quiet in the countryside, convenient to visit Volterra and San Gimignano and local vineyards. Great value for money.
What could be improved: Nothing, such a great place and great people.
