Agriturismo Biologico Diacceroni
Peccioli, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at my fair share of agriturismos in Tuscany, but Diacceroni actually gets it right – and I mean really right. Tucked away in this little hamlet called Villamagna (honestly, most people zoom right past it heading to Volterra), this place feels like you stumbled onto someone’s family property… because well, you basically did. The drive up through the cypress-lined road is pretty classic Tuscan stuff, but what hits you first is how quiet it is. I mean, properly quiet – no highway noise, just olive groves stretching out toward those rolling hills that make you understand why everyone’s obsessed with this region.
The whole “biologico” thing isn’t just marketing speak here. They’re actually growing their own vegetables and herbs right on the property, and you can smell the rosemary and lavender when you’re walking around in the evening. The rooms have that perfect balance of rustic charm without making you feel like you’re roughing it – stone walls, wooden beams, but the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms work properly (trust me, that’s not always a given in these converted farmhouses). What really impressed me was the attention to detail – they’ve got these little touches like locally-made soaps and breakfast jams from their own fruit trees. The breakfast, by the way, is fantastic. Fresh bread, local cheeses, and if you’re lucky, Signora Maria will bring out some of her homemade cakes. She doesn’t speak much English, but her smile says everything.
You know what makes this place special though? It’s the location without feeling isolated. Sure, you’re surrounded by countryside, but San Gimignano is maybe twenty minutes away, and you can actually see Volterra perched on its hill from some of the rooms. The family running it – I think it’s three generations living on the property – they genuinely seem to enjoy having guests around. They’ll point you toward the best local restaurants (skip the touristy places in town and head to that little trattoria in Casole d’Elsa they recommended), and they know which hiking trails are worth your time. Parking’s easy, check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and the whole place has this lived-in authenticity that’s getting harder to find. The pool area overlooks the valley, and honestly, I spent more time there with a book than I planned to. It’s not huge or fancy, but it’s clean and the view is ridiculous. Just don’t expect much nightlife – this is more about waking up to roosters and falling asleep to crickets, which is exactly what you want from a place like this.

What could be improved: Room was a little dark
Thank you for an amazing Tuscan holiday!!
What could be improved: We stayed 5 nights and no fresh towels are offered or included. 5€ per towel, per person adds up quickly. Replacement towels should be offered for longer stays.
As others have mentioned, there's no housekeeping- even for long stays. We had to take our own trash and recycling out, and we're offered 1x trash bag for 5 people for 5 nights. All of this is understandable/manageable but then we were charged €80 on checkout for cleaning. We had to purchase our own trash bags and extra toilet paper. Given the price of the accommodation, this isn't a deal breaker but I think these policies should be better advertised to equip guests with what they need to bring, but what to expect on checkout.
These minor issues didn't impact our stay but are worth mentioning for future guests!
The unit was clean and roomy, only two complementary coffee pods for 4 nights stay and no jug to heat milk for coffee ( hence someone using the kettle). The family was lovely and the staff were terrific, would have loved to be there for the party nights! Great having the horses roaming around.
What could be improved: There was very little to complain about during our stay. Any questions or requests we had were promptly addressed by the staff. As it was the off season (late October), some of the activities weren't available, but that was communicated in advance and the staff still offered a variety of options for families.
