Agriturismo Pompilia
Volterra, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Agriturismo Pompilia? The drive up to Podere Sestri 19 – it’s one of those winding Tuscan roads where you start questioning your GPS, but then you round a corner and suddenly understand why they tucked this place away in the hills above Villamagna. The whole check-in process is a bit quirky (you actually handle that at Via della Bonifica 156 in Fabbrica di Peccioli), but honestly, it adds to the authentic agriturismo experience rather than detracting from it.
The property itself sits on working farmland, and I mean actually working – you’ll hear roosters in the morning and catch glimpses of olive groves that stretch toward the Arno valley. What I loved most was how the owners clearly restored this place with respect for its agricultural roots. The rooms have that perfect balance of rustic charm and modern comfort – exposed beams and terracotta floors, but also proper heating and surprisingly good Wi-Fi. The breakfast spread features their own olive oil and honey, which sounds like typical agriturismo marketing until you taste it and realize this family actually knows what they’re doing. I found myself lingering over morning coffee on the terrace, watching the mist lift off the valley below while planning absolutely nothing for the day ahead.
Location-wise, you’re about twenty minutes from Volterra (which gets crazy crowded in summer, fair warning) and roughly the same to Peccioli, where that check-in office is located. But here’s the thing – this isn’t one of those places where you feel stranded without a car. The nearby village of Villamagna has a decent trattoria and a small market, plus the hosts are incredibly helpful with local recommendations. They pointed me toward a tiny vineyard about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise. The rating of 9 feels spot-on; it’s not flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but everything works exactly as it should, and the attention to detail is impressive. The only minor downside is that cell service can be spotty in some parts of the property, but honestly, that might be exactly what you’re looking for when you book a place like this.

Guest Reviews
The reception has a problem with sending emails. they send me 8 identical emails at the same time and do not send or respond to those emails where I ask for the final invoice
I have booked for next year as well.
What could be improved: The swimming pool was a little dirty.
What could be improved: We missed the free coffee
Extra cost for heating
What could be improved: It’s about a 5 km drive to the main building, and half of the road is in poor condition. Since there is a lot of traffic and many tourists going back and forth, it would be good to repair the road. The walls were not soundproof, and the rooms could use proper blankets. The rooms could also be a bit more modern.
What could be improved: You had to pay extra for air-conditioning.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: If anything the private road had a few rough spots
What could be improved: The washing machine was broken and left our clothes full of detergent. We had to rinse each item out in the shower. However, the staff refunded the money we put in to do laundry
You have plenty space for parking, the house has pretty much everything you need and the other Agriturismo is 8 min drive if you need anything else (bring a corkscrew)
What could be improved: The check-in was complicated, the instructions in the message are NOT CLEAR. Go straightaway to Agriturismo Dioccerone, find it in the GPS, ignore the address it is given to you. After that, everything is perfect.
Bring a corkscrew, yes, one of the most famous winery areas in the planet and the Agriturismo doesn't provide a corkscrew haha
