Bellevue House Affittacamere
Florence, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at my fair share of places in Florence, and Bellevue House Affittacamere is one of those spots that just gets it right. It’s tucked away on Via Della Scala, which honestly might be the perfect street for first-time visitors – you’re literally a three-minute walk from Santa Maria Novella station (I mean, you can practically hear the trains if you listen for them), but you’re also right in the thick of everything that matters.
The thing about this place is that it feels like someone’s elegant home rather than a typical hotel. The owners have this knack for making you feel settled without being overly fussy about it. When I walked into my room, the first thing I noticed was how quiet it was – which is saying something because Via Della Scala can get busy during the day with people hauling luggage to and from the station. The rooms have this warm, lived-in elegance that you don’t often find in four-star places. Actually, the bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed whole, and the linens smelled like proper Italian laundry – you know, that clean, sun-dried scent that somehow never translates anywhere else.
What really sold me on the place was the morning routine. There’s this little breakfast setup that changes slightly each day, and the coffee – well, it’s Florence, so the coffee is obviously good, but they seem to understand that some of us need that first cup before we can even think about navigating the cobblestones outside. The staff has this casual efficiency where they’ll point you toward the best route to the Duomo (avoid Via dei Cerretani in the morning rush, trust me) or mention that the market at San Lorenzo is less chaotic after 2 PM. These are the kinds of details that make a difference when you’re trying to actually enjoy a city instead of just surviving it.
The neighborhood itself is brilliant for getting your bearings. You’ve got the Arno about a ten-minute walk south, and if you head east toward the center, you’ll hit all the major sights without feeling like you’re doing some forced march through tourist hell. There’s this little alimentari around the corner where locals actually shop, and honestly, watching the morning routine there – the animated discussions about prosciutto, the careful selection of tomatoes – it’s better than half the museums in the city.
I should mention that the 9.1 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen. This place works because it doesn’t try too hard. The Wi-Fi actually functions, the shower has proper water pressure, and when you come back after a long day of museum-hopping and gelato-testing, it feels like coming home rather than returning to some sterile hotel room. Plus, the value is solid – in a city where you can easily drop twice as much for half the charm, Bellevue House delivers that sweet spot where comfort meets authenticity without the premium price tag.

What could be improved: There were lots of stairs, but did not mind. The elevator is really for 1-2 people with minimal luggage, and slowly makes its way to the third floor.
Every thing was amazing
What could be improved: Shower wasn’t great
What could be improved: We were happy with everything provided. Perhaps some coffee and a bit of milk, but this doesn’t seem to be a norm we’ve found in Italy so far .
What could be improved: There was only one small elevator that is slow and shared with other establishments, however, we didn't really encounter an issue during our stay.
Perfect location to go to all the tourist places
Lucio and his wife were nice.
Thanks that we can leave the luggage after checkout.
Hairdryer is unique.
